This is where one needs to think critically about what and how the media is reporting. They are reported to be arrested for being too close to the airport. You don't get arrested for being "too close" you get arrested for violating airspace. There is airspace below 400' where they are allowed to operate as long as not over people populated areas. However, in some areas (like airports etc) controlled airspace can go down to the ground/surface. To operate in controlled airspace a drone would need to have a flight plan and proper reporting equipment.
This wasn't a "too close" it was a violation of controlled airspace.
Also this is not the type of drone activity they've been talking about in the Jerseys.
