Highest Placing Freshman at Each Weight

Agree with Gus. See Nino Bono... -
Happens to the best of us, Dr. Proctologist.

"perineal"; clever pun, or just that damn auto-correct again?

Iowa and Iowa State Involved in Gambling Investigation

Interesting if true. Amazing how fast rumors travel. ESPN should issue an apology if they did this, since the photo clearly shows that he was there, and not AWOL.

I agree. It was also nice that it wasn't just a string of cliches, which some of the media-savvy types try to slip by with. Mostly I don't listen to post-game interviews because you rarely get any insights, but I do feel as if you get some authentic in this one.

The "edit" button covers a wide variety of sins. I just don't think it is appropriate to start topics criticizing speculative behavior that has not (and ultimately, did not) happen.

This is classic stuff. If you look at most tournament podium pictures the guys on the left (even placers, 2, 4, 6, and eight) are usually glum/stoic, and the right side, odd placers tend to be smiling because they won their last match. Rationally, the second place guy should be happier than all the places three through eight, but casual empiricism suggests that that isn't the case. Clearly not 100% of the time (e.g., there's some high school freshman in 8th who was delighted just to place), but feel free to pull out some picture you have and see if there aren't more smiles on the odd side than the even.

So, this was all 'outrage' about behavior that didn't even happen (see photographic evidence in a later post above). This whole thread is full of krap.

The biggest winner of NCAA Championships weekend: Rock Harrison
lightweight replied to BaldAt23's topic in College Wrestling
I've enjoyed Rock's commentary on ACC matches during the year. Some tutorials on officiating, but pitched at the right level for the fan. -
Yeah, 3 Ivy League wrestlers as champs. Reminds you what the sport missed when the Ivy League opted out of their Covid year.

Not too many steel mill jobs left in Pittsburgh these days, but I get the sentiment. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up on the coaching staff next year at Pitt. Hometown kid.

Congrats on the escape; you earn zero points
lightweight replied to jross's topic in College Wrestling
Risk and reward. If he gets the reversal he gets 2 pts instead of 1. He is free to make that decision. -
Matthews defending 1-0 victories was bound to come back and bite him sometime.

Exactly what I was thinking. Pretty much the reverse of "Hate the sin, love the sinner" - lightweights and middleweights can rock the two piece. Heavyweights, not so much.

This consultant you hired must be one of those, you know, tall guys. I'll bet he didn't schedule any meetings for the next couple weeks.

Why are there 33 NCAA qualifiers per weight?
lightweight replied to peanut's topic in College Wrestling
How did they get to 33? Well, originally it was 33 1/3, but then teams could not get the 1/3 wrestler's bleeding stopped before the five minute limit expired. (Although a few teams who had gotten creative with their 9.9 scholarships had a guy already sewn up and ready to go.) -
Looks like the match should've started with a penalty point for an eye-poke.
-
I'd like this guy even if he weren't from Western PA.
