  1. Stout starts down, reverses almost immediately. Pettigrew stands but Stout with the mat return. One minute remaining, Stout dominating. RT over two minutes now. Stall on Pettigrew. End of the second 5-0
  2. Stout in deep but unable to finish the TD. Stout has another single. Picks up the leg and finishes for the TD. 3-0 Pitt with less than a minute remaining. Stout with kind of a Navy ride. Pettigrew squares back up on hands and knees. End of the first.
  3. Six of ten Pitt wrestlers from WPIAL high schools.
  4. 197 Stout vs Pettigrew
  5. Ernd down to start the third. Heller working on top. Now he cuts him after getting a minute of riding time. Low single for Heller. 7-2 now. Stalemate. Heller cuts him again. Stall on Ernd. Heller again low single. 10-3, now 11-3 with RT for the major.
  6. Heller down to start the second. Wrestlers OB and restarting. Heller out for one. Ernd in on a leg but Heller collapses on him and ref calls a stalemate. Ernd in again but now he's flat. Stalemate again. But Ernd putting some deposits in the no stall bank account. 4-1
  7. Buzzer saves Ernd at the end of the period.
  8. Heller tried each leg in, finally cut him. 3-1 in the first
  9. 184 Ernd up two weights to face #15 R. Heller
  10. 11-5 Ruth. But closer than that, Luca had to try some desperate shots at the end when he was down one point and Ruth was clearly going to do nothing since he didn't have to.
  11. Just got logged in here -- how did the first two matches (before the Ruth match now) go?
  12. It confuses me a bit, since I thought the purpose of the recent change of the big near fall to 4 points was to encourage more mat wrestling, but this change now just encourages more stay on your feet, takedown-then-cut him matches?
  13. Pitt vs Maryland had some good matches. Especially (and it pains me to say it) the heavyweight match. Pitt was up by 2 going into the match, so a win by Maryland would swing the dual.
  14. Yes, they frequently called for back points when no takedown had been awarded. And they called a takedown when it was a reversal, which you should know because you are watching the match and you know where the wrestlers began the period. And, with the new college rules, when the official holds up two fingers it can't be a takedown anymore. I also noticed that the scoreboard operators were having problems, but this is not that unusual; if you're going to announce you have to watch the official and see what he is signaling. Especially when you have two sets of eyes in the booth. As I said in the post above, none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes. But those two (students? interns? communications majors?) aren't qualified to broadcast a wrestling match at this level.
  15. Only if you can avoid getting rear-ended by one of the student drivers. I don't think it is too much to ask that at least ONE of the two knows how the scoring works; the other one can simply read off the data that the AD provides about the wrestler's previous record, where else they went to school, win streaks, etc., and let the kid who knows something do the play by play. Especially given that BIG+ requires a paid subscription. I don't claim to be perfect, but I am doing it for free. Also, Pitt-Maryland were two ranked teams and it is a Monday early in the season, so it isn't like there was likely to be some huge scheduling conflict with booking announcers.
  16. You're welcome. Good practice for me as the HS season starts next weekend.
  17. Here's something that I never say -- the heavyweights had the best match of the night.
  18. Nevills starts on the bottom. Pitzer riding hard with a tight waist. Get the wrist, briefly. Standup and roll but Pitzer follows. Another standup. Pitzer still on top, 45 seconds left. Pitzer riding tough. Pitzer has the wrist. RT locked. Hooks the ankle. Standup and escape for Nevills, but 4-3 with riding time for the victory!
  19. Pitzer starts on the bottom. Nevills on top, but Pitzer trying to come out the back, then reverses him. But now Nevills reverses him 2-2. Ptzer escape. Pitzer head inside single. Stuck underneath all that weight. 3-2 at the end of period.
  20. Final match Seth Nevills vs Pitzer. Both ranked. Pitt with a 18-16 lead. All comes down to this match. Nevills with a knee sleeve. Not much action so far. 0-0 end of first.
  21. Stout cuts Smith to start the third. <"Extra year for Covid eligible players."> Sigh. Still 4-1 MD with a minute to go. Stout needs to hit something here. Smith in on single and takes Stout up in the air and gets the TD. Escape but final is 7-2 for MD.
  22. Stout down to start the second . Stands and turn for the escape. 3-1. Smith tries to throw him by but Stout defends crisply. Stout low single, whizzer from Smith. ?Stall call?
  23. Stout blast double defended by Smith as they go OB Potentially dangerous? Stout in on a single, but Smith kicks out. still on their feet. Smith hits a big single for a TD Twenty seconds left in the first. Stout hits a roll but countered. End of the first.
  24. 197 M Stout vs Smith
  25. Thirty seconds left. Heller trying to keep the TF Final is 20-5 TF for Pitt.
