Crookham, Shapiro, Messenbrink - quite a parlay!
If this happens, who gets rookie of the year? Edge to Shapiro as he beats a world champ? 165 is pretty tough too. 149, meh.
All the events were competitive and ok that maybe less of grind as prior years - perhaps less injuries with smaller fields? Better than the pandemic in any event.
I am put off by it as well for the reasons noted. I guess with professional opportunities and NIL, this may be some kind of increased showmanship? Is it part of a changing NCAA wrestling culture?
Hoping not - but might be something that cannot be stopped.
People love a comeback story and it seemed like Iowa was going to offer the chance. Not sure this family is interested. Is this a planned WWE showmanship campaign to further build the family brand? Expecting no more NCAA wrestling for AJ and not to sure about his middle brother.
I am not a fan of the Cornell program, but I am fine with the decisions and Mike Grey's explanations. Mikstake to wrestle injured guys. They are not professional athletes.
As Gimp notes, Dick stayed with the sport as a referee and was always very gracious. He spoke at the 100th anniversary of the EIWA. He readily acknowledged that wrestlers of his day could not compete with those of today. Dick and many others of his day were multi-sport athletes and did not wrestle much out of season.
I think they have a good chance of placing higher at NCAA's than they did at the Cliff Keen. Also guessing they might compete at a lower weight? Maybe Foca is committed to 184 for the team, but I dunno. His funk does not funk at 184 as it did at 174. Was his knee injured?
Three wins by Penn upper classmen and great experience overall for the Penn team. Penn wrestlenation pretty pleased. Hope Iowa found it to be worth the trip.
Cael is often magnanimous in who takes the mat and tends to give overmatched opponents a chance to put up a few pts. Could see that here. 133 might be the best match of the night.
Have not studied it, but Penn might have more chances to win matches against Iowa that Lehigh does against PSU.
I think the color guys may tend to aim at the kind of listners that are newer to the sport. I thought it did pretty well but a few times his coaching points were so detailed I could not follow them even though I wanted to.
