  1. My dad actually made that move, from Harvard to ASU as an undergrad. He later told me he kind of wished he hadn't gone to Harvard, he wanted to go to Dartmouth or Brown. My grandfather was also a 2nd generation Harvard alumni so my dad didn't have much choice. When he transferred to ASU, he had to take a Spanish literature class as a prerequisite for something, and when he was registering mentioned he took a class from some world famous Spanish writer, and the head of the department just happened to be walking by and overheard it. He said to my dad, "You took a class from the great whoever that author was?" And when my dad said yes the department head ripped up the registration and said, "Nobody who has taken a class from him needs to be bothered by this!" And enrolled my dad without the prerequisite himself. I still don't know exactly why he left Harvard, I have some guesses. He built a ski jump outside the library among other things, so I can only imagine what went on at Harvard in the 70s.
  2. ASU could get Nevills or the heavyweight from Harvard. It is pretty easy to get into grad school at ASU. Even easier to get admitted as an undergrad. There wouldn't be a huge drop off if they picked somebody like that up while Schultz goes for the Olympics. But we will see how things shake out in Vegas.
  3. Here is something crazy that could happen. ASU picks up Nevills as Schultz takes an OR. Adds a big body for Schultz to wrestle, gives the team not much drop off in talent, and familiarity with 2 former PSU coaches at ASU.
  4. 1. I think it depends on how Teemer comes off his injury. He wasn't a huge 157 but he wasn't small either. 2. My guess is Chlebove. But Yas is the kind of guy who would run through a wall if you asked him to. So I wouldn't be surprised if he was at 33. 3. Kordell could apply for another year so it is unlikely. Fagen is their best option for now unless they hit gold in the portal. Or get an under the radar recruit like Kordell again.
  5. I thought he was injured and never got healthy. Or maybe that was it, in which case bring in Griffith.
  6. Is Negron not coming back?
  7. Mark Schultz transferred to Oklahoma from UCLA.
  8. For some reason I thought Larkin was already there. Also Addison looked good in the dual. Hopefully he sticks around. I guess ASU didn't win/lose the Ferrari sweepstakes as was rumored last year so unless they find another hidden gem like Norfleet it looks like it'll be Fagan. The lower weights up to 57 are stacked.
  9. They dropped wrestling years ago.
  10. Wars of religion always make me laugh, because basically, you're fighting over who has the best imaginary friend.
  11. Fagen is a capable 97. The lighter/ middle weights are going to be scary good and have a lot of depth. Figs, Chlebove, Yas, Vasquez, Larkin, Ramos, Parco and Teemer coming back next year. Lots of talent. I would like to see a long term solution at 65, the last Penn State transfer at that weight didn't work out too well. But if Griffith is available as a grad student for a year why not?
  12. I meant recently. I know Alan Vera defected a few years ago. Jesus Wilson before him. Haislan Garcia went to Canada.
  13. He must feel tough trying to pick a fight with a guy 50 lbs smaller.
  14. ASU has need at 65/74 next year. If they get a top transfer or two they are in the hunt.
  15. Does the University of Oklahoma still have a D1 team or did they drop to D2 or NAIA?
  16. Not surprised by Courtney.
  17. Mark Schultz has a story about wrestling a bear that was chained up at some bar. I think the catch was you would only win if you could pin both of its wrists down at the same time, which is apparently impossible because of how they are built. He felt sad for the bear since he thought the owner abused it.
  18. It didn't really work out that well with Negron this year. I guess there was a reason he left Penn State.
  19. I know he got hit for a team point after he lost to Belton. I couldn't figure out who else cost them a team point.
  20. 2 of those were NCAA champions and an 8th place finisher.
  21. There wasn't much room for error in this tournament for ASU. Yas getting stuck as Belton was starting to go empty and Courtney losing were surprises. Injuries have just been unkind. Losing Jacori, then having Kordell miss most of the season. Montalvo was in and out with injuries too. ASU needed to go at least 5 for 6 in the finals to have a shot. Also having Willner and Negron not do much on the backside hurt. I saw they were dinged a point for the extracurriculars after Yas lost. What was the other point for?
  22. They got uniforms and everything.
  23. Norfleet wins 14-2. He is back!
