Brooks story: True or False?
Doublehalf replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
I think your understanding of the matter is what is shifting because of how detailed and verbose we have to be in order to get the point across that this isn't a matter of denigrating his belief in god but rather his attitude. And after having to fully lay out the reasons people find him a bit insufferable at times you may finally agree but that would mean admitting you may have been partiallly wrong or at least give ground to the opposing viewpoint which is a bridge to far for some on here. -

Bro- Are you even aware of how you respond to people in the "non-wrestling" threads? I mean for the love, in this thread alone you clearly have a problem with people that are thinking differently than you. This statement by you is complete hypocrisy. The problem with Brooks is the arrogance that comes through while preaching- it was the same when he said something to the effect or implied that David Taylor wasn't godly enough. That's what is annoying as hell to people. The same way when yourself and others preach about how trump and maga is essentially your religion or prophet. The problem isn't Christianity, it's his penchant for being at the height of pompousness when droning on about it... Carr is equally if not further down the religious continuum and he doesn't act like that and comes across way more likable. I suppose everyone is a hypocrite to some extent when it comes to believing in their own value system and reacting negatively to a differing of opinion and you my friend are no exception- far from it. -
Brooks story: True or False?

To this point- I had a flashback of Roger Clement's blaming his wife for the HGH he had... Im not sure I can think of one person who was caught cheating in which their first response was "Oops, you got me!" They deny deny deny until it goes away or they can't anymore and that's just the way it's been forever. Where there is this much smoke there is usually fire and anyone not looking at his story with a ton of skepticism is being naive.. His views and comments on others in the past (Specifically DT for me) has earned him no benefit of the doubt from me. -
I think there are a couple things that are bothersome out of the gate with how this has been handled by yourself and others from the start but since you are at least willing to discuss it, I respect the engagement. The few observations I had from the beginning was the manner in which you spoke about it to begin with seemed to take the side of and I'm paraphrasing "this is a beau problem and he needs to shut up or put out a public account" (which he ultimately did in the article) As wrestling personalities, you speculate on things all the time within the sport ie results/outcomes, transfers etc... This seemed to be something that struck some kind of nerve given your initial reaction vs giving an objective viewpoint. The bias was apparent from the start which is fine I suppose. The problem for some of us is that we know and are aware of your many connections within the wrestling community, teams and sources close to the matter and it would seem pretty easy for you to make a couple calls to hear what others would have to say or corroborate Beau's report. There clearly are others that also came forward anonymously as well so this isn't just about Beau. He even stated the sides are not himself and Penn state. I think there was a way to talk about this and report on everything that was said in the article and have a discussion around its merits, and potentially consequences for all should it be true (which you could get a sense of from your sources.) a couple things are possible: 1. This is incendiary as all hell and you don't want any part in talking about it which is fine, maybe just explicitly state you feel personally uncomfortable talking about (your initial characterization of Beau felt like you were overly dismissive of him vs taking a middle of the road stance) 2. You know there could be consequences in talking about this in the vein of falling out of favor with your sources and connections and chose to preserve those over speaking about this publicly. 3. Maybe you did call and no one talked to your or advised you to be careful and not to draw attention to it so that people wouldn't be viewed in a bad light. One thing is certain though and that ship sailed as soon as the article came out. I just think if this were a different topic you would have gone all in at getting information but because it could be damaging you took the hands off approach which hasn't seemed to be your style on most other things. You could have called the guy that wrote the article for more context as well. speaking about the situation and its potential ramifications is not irresponsible and frankly what the biggest news is in the sport right now. One thing is certain, if you chose to talk more about this, you'd get a lot more clicks, eyes and ears on your content because that's what people want to hear about right now right wrong or indifferent.

Now when someone says something is a nothing burger, it almost immediately sounds alarm bells in my mind that there is probably more there than they are letting on or there is a hidden agenda to not talk about it...

Not sure if you read my prior post but I'm clearly not talking about country flags or team gear that represents the nation's flag. Im talking about head bands, socks, "Muhammad trained" t-shirts... I just don't see them marketing Allah/Buddha/Shiva as one of their wrestling trainers. Ive watched a good bit of international wrestling and I'm saying I still have never seen it.

Haha - That's actually a clip from Below Deck this season, my one trashy and guilty television pleasure I indulge in.

My intention wasn't to lob anything at David Carr, just making the very obvious observation that he is in the same boat with these guys when it comes to being so in your face with Jesus Christ. Im not saying other countries don't make public displays of religion but I honestly have never seen athletes in other countries wearing apparel with their religion plastered all over it. Maybe that's out there, I just personally have never seen that anywhere. Also there's a reason there is a saying "you are the company you keep" Not sure if you're a parent but if you could choose to have your child be friends with people that cheat, solicit hookers and sexually assault women or those that don't which would you choose?
-
I've probably said it before but those that really ride the Jesus train that publicly do seem the most bankrupt and this isn't just in wrestling, we've seen this all over the place. The way Brooks talked about DT that time in the podcast after he left for OSU was crazy to hear. I honestly don't care whether someone is religious or not but the extent that Snyder and Brooks went and to a lesser degree Starocci just goes to show they can justify anything as long as they are of the delusion they can just confess their sins every Sunday... Im really holding out hope that David Carr is not like these guys but he seemed really close to Aaron so we'll see. I just can't imagine people wearing an "Allah Trained" or "Buddha trained" shirt or head band. I mean it's hilarious to even think about... How about guys wearing socks with Shiva on them... Not sure what it is with the US going so hard in that direction.

I'm not sure I would have talked about it even if I knew like Shapiro did that guys there are taking steroids but I get the frustration he has and there's definitely people that went after him on these boards and big time on BWI that owe him a figurative apology. I think it's easy to forget just how plugged in all these guys are and what a small community wrestling already is so I don't think he would have ever lobbed that kind of accusation over the fence if there wasn't truth behind it... -

At this point, if Carter doesn't like you, you're feeling pretty good about that right now... If you were tight with Carter, you're looking over your shoulder. -

This wasn't a documentary about Jim Jordan so the defensiveness is very telling... Jim Jordan was highlighted in the same manor as every other person that was in an authoritative capacity that chose to do nothing. Not only that but they did note he was contacted to give his side of the story and chose not to. The defense of "culture was like that everywhere" is a terrible defense of wrong doing and laughable to be honest. Lastly, and if you watched the F'ing documentary, all these people explain why they didn't talk about it and how Strauss went after certain types of athletes and how they were scared to lose scholarships or fall out of favor and that's just the ones that didn't report, there were several that did including on other teams. While the wrestling team was center stage, there were many other men's sports affected by this and the Dr literally had a locker in each of the men's sports lockerooms which is wild... Your hypothetical questions and objections are answered in the doc and it's ridiculous that anyone is sitting here defending how heinous what this guy did all because some of you guys have a man crush on Jim Jordan... -

Which part of the documentary about a physician using his position of authority to sexually abuse and rape students, students athletes, and adults should we deem as not factual? Should I view documentaries about the holocaust with the skepticism you are suggesting here? Or is it because maybe this puts a dent in the image you may have of Ohio state, people abusing their authoritative power, coaches that you may align with politically or any other closely held beliefs?
