  1. I've been wondering if this may be part of the thinking with Ivy League wrestling separating from the EIWA - in this case, the traditional rivalries are also regional, and the thinking may be that the best course for survival is to focus on the core brand. I still don't see Hockey going that way (they are still staying with the larger ECAC), but I'm wondering if that may be the next step.
  2. There is a really interesting subtext to this discussion, IMO - both Penn State and Iowa passed on attending any of the tougher early season tournaments this year, presumably on the belief that the B1G schedule in itself is enough competition. In this case, however, that thinking may have not served Glazier well.
  3. Well, let's also look at the rankings (the Coaches' Rankings) that actually count: 197 1 Aaron Brooks Penn State Big Ten 396 197 2 Trent Hidlay NC State ACC 384 197 3 Michael Beard Lehigh EIWA 361 197 4 Tanner Sloan South Dakota State Big 12 357 197 5 Jaxon Smith Maryland Big Ten 342 197 6 Stephen Buchanan Oklahoma Big 12 340 197 7 Lou Deprez Binghamton EIWA 323 197 8 Jacob Cardenas Cornell EIWA 316 197 9 Rocky Elam Missouri Big 12 305 197 10 stephen little Little Rock Pac 12 292 197 11 Zach Glazier Iowa Big Ten 277 197 12 Luke Stout Princeton EIWA 255 197 13 Silas Allred Nebraska Big Ten 254 197 14 Evan Bockman Utah Valley Big 12 226 197 15 Mac Stout Pittsburgh ACC 211 197 16 Nikolas Stemmet Stanford Pac 12 201.5 197 17 John Poznanski Rutgers Big Ten 189.5 197 18 Levi Hopkins Campbell SoCon 181.5 197 19 Max Shaw North Carolina ACC 165.5 197 20 Luke Surber Oklahoma State Big 12 159.5 197 21 Joseph Novak Wyoming Big 12 156.5 197 22 Garrett Joles Minnesota Big Ten 151.5 197 23 Luke Geog Ohio State Big Ten 141.5 197 24 Wyatt Voelker Northern Iowa Big 12 125 197 25 Andy Smith Virginia Tech ACC 105 197 26 Cole Urbas Pennsylvania EIWA 102 197 27 Justin Rademacher Oregon State Pac 12 84.5 197 28 Sam Mitchell Buffalo MAC 64 197 29 John Crawford Franklin & Marshall EIWA 54 197 30 Jack Wehmeyer Columbia EIWA 45 197 31 Benjamin Smith Cleveland State MAC 40.5 197 32 Evan Bates Northwestern Big Ten 34.5 197 33 Gabe Sollars Indiana Big Ten 28. There are some slight differences from Intermat's rankings, with Smith ranked 5th rather than 4th. So the question is - how much would a win over Smith (or hypothetically Brooks) sway the opinion of 2 coaches from each conference?
  4. Cardenas has wrestled a very tough schedule, all of his losses are to the #2, 3, 5, and 7 ranked guys; and he's beaten 9, 10, 12 and 13 (9 and 13 by bonus wins). His ranking totally makes sense with him at 8th. Glazer may wrestle in the B1G, but he doesn't have many ranked wins to show.

  6. That verse was the exact first thing that popped into my mind when I saw John's post!
  7. Too much math for me!
  8. IIRC, I think he would tell us right after the allocations who had actually earned them. I don't believe he can say for certain in advance who or how many allocations are earned, because the exact threshold criteria is variable, and subject to the discretion of the selection committee. FYI - I believe this is his blog site: Wrestling by Pirate | A different look at college wrestling (wordpress.com)
  9. Great pass at this, Bracketbuster! I think EIWA has to be just nuts to try and seed - so many wrestlers, and so often no head-to-head or even common opponents. I'm going to miss this tournament after this year...
  10. For you it's Leap Day, but for me, it's Thursday.
  11. Oh come on, stop whining. Everybody knows only Cornell guys duck.
  12. There is no chaos, only a failure to see the true order of things.
  13. Just to add a little perspective - Princeton may not be nationally ranked this season, but they have locked in 3rd place in the Ivy's. 2023-24 Wrestling Standings - Ivy League
  14. Well - there were a couple of moments when there might have been a fall, but I couldn't clearly see both shoulders down from the camara angle. The guy with the striped shirt certainly had a better view than I. Maybe at 1:03 or so, and at that point the Navy bench may have had the best look.
  15. Did not see this dual - link to replay/stream?
  16. Yea, I've gotta chime in on this too - as a Cornell fan, I'm in no way embarrassed by the results of this dual. I saw a match between two really good teams, and last night, the better team won. At 141, we all know Cornella wrestling in this dual was just a fantasy - if you saw the Mizzou dual, anyone could see he was seriously injured. On the other hand, Josh Saunders came off the bench and gave 4th ranked Ryan Jack all he can handle - Saunders very nearly pulled off the upset, and I'm not sure he's a significant level below a healthy Cornella, let alone a banged-up Cornella. As a Cornell fan - I'm proud of what our guy did. We don't know what the issue was/is with Vito, but if you watched the last dual against Penn - something did not look right, and indeed at one point he appeared to signal for injury time, but then waved it off (much to the disapproval of the Penn crowd, who wanted a choice for their guy on the restart). But let's say hypothetically he was healthy enough to start, but not quite 100% - maybe he wins that match, but probably not with bonus points, so that's an 8 point swing - 19-12 final score. It's still not enough to make a difference. Losses by Ungar and Foca were disappointing, I had picked both to win; but on the other hand I did not pick Benny Baker to win his bout at 174 (oh me of little faith!), so we dropped one more of the close ones than I expected. (Yeah, Benny!) Other than that - I think things went pretty much chalk. We saw some good matchups, some very exciting wrestling (the 184 bout was WILD), and a solid effort by both teams. So why are people whining? Two guys we hoped to see weren't available - we still saw 9 great matches (only 133 was a mismatch, not to throw shade on Qureshi's effort). As I posted on the Cornell forum - Sometimes the other team is better. Sometimes it's just not your day. For some reason some folks think wrestling should always follow predictable results, but look at other sports - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose... and sometimes it rains. And tomorrow is another day. Looking forward to the guys bouncing back at App. State.
  17. That really depends - what is the beer pairing?
  18. Right on, brother. Right on.
  19. Isn't Incontrera at 174? Wrestled Wolack from Columbia?
  20. Is there a "duck index" in the official selection and seeding criteria?
  21. Senior Day is always a fun event - waiting to see which of the wrestlers listed on the roster as "seniors" are actually honored as Seniors. Those not named in the ceremony usually have a semester or so left on their "Ivy Clock". Not that I have any inside info, but I think I saw somewhere on the Cornell forum that Foca has another year - whether that means at Cornell, or just generally, I couldn't say.
  22. You could possibly squeeze in half of the Mizzou / Cornell dual at 1:00 (EST)... Oh wait - remove from list, due to ducks.
  23. That forfeit at 141...
