I don't think Leonard was hired into position he has now. I think it started after Cody hired but I'm not 100% certain.

If you go back and look Mark Cody had most his success when he 1st got there. Then Leonard arrived and the program has been going down. Lou finally started to get good kids and Leonard cans him and takes almost a month to replace him. Yet NDSU who didn't fire their coach was able to replace in 2 days. Joe C needs to connect the dots, read the tea leaves, just do his job and get a leader in that position. Looks really bad on Joe C with his non action IMO.

Leonard deserves some grief yet if athlete signs a NLI they are required to show up or sit out. Portal is not an option. Woodley went into portal late. Why he was able to be blocked.

NCAAs are well attended for 2 things stated. Support of school and sessions are short. Our pinnacle event is perfect for any spectator and even casual fans are good with it as there 2.5 hours. Break for 4 hours and back cheering again. It's the only event in wrestling set up for fan experience. Our kid events have more matches in 1 day than NCAAs over 3 days. Now we can't run high school events and kid events like NCAAs but a BIG reason it is so well attended is directly attributed to how it is set up for fans to eat and drink between sessions and late at night with late morning start times.

Unfortunately there is a drawback in being a football powerhouse. Yes there are lots of donors but those people want to direct their funds to football. OU has had a few big whales for wrestling but when only a few they get too much say. Think of John Dupont. Horrible reference but you get picture. Spates was very successful but people wanted to beat OSU at nationals. He was chased out and Mark Cody didn't get the recruits and didn't sniff success Jack had. Then comes in Lou with a cupboard that was BARE and he finally got some kids in room yet went 3 years without an All American. Our room is good right now. Problem is organization in the program is non existant. OSU has been top dog in state for decades but Lou unfortunately soured a lot of the state against OU. Fan support has been poor and RTC support has been worse. Good news...If OU is able to get a leader that can organize the program with an Executive Director for RTC, great assistants, shake hands with donors, and galvanize fan base then OU can be back to getting trophies in as little as 3 years.

Well... my hope to stir pot didn't come to fruition. Joe C has a sticky situation. OU needs to find the guy that can lead. Not just coach the wrestlers but LEAD the program. As a huge fan I'm frustrated that nothing settled yet but I do realize that they need to get this right. The person needs to be have a plan not only on getting talent but also running of the RTC, getting fans at matches, and donors to support. I pray we get this right.

WOW big news. Give Castiglione and the University credit. They went BIG and barely missed with Rob Koll but have now landed Bill Zadick to leave Colorado Springs and lead the Sooners. What a revelation!

my 2 cents...Duals do mean something to HS coaches. That is why they bump/manipulate their line-ups constantly. They want the W. Most of the suggested changes though are easier to implement in college over HS. I see no harm in doing it. A forfeit (especially at college level) needs to be worth more than a pin. If you are at a college and can't fill a team that is *pathetic*. You should be penalized at college level for submitting a forfeit. Much more difficult to implement at HS level. Recommendation for HS is that you need to use the classification system. Again, big schools should be able to fill full lineups. Smaller classification schools can have modified weight classes for duals. 6 weight classes in smallest division, then 8 weight classes and then 10 weight classes and then full lineups. Weight classes can be 100 - 112, 113 - 122, 123 - 134, 135 - 150, 151 - 170, 171 - 195, and 195 - 265. That's actually 7 weight classes but I'm honestly white boarding this as I go. Let someone else invest the hours of time. In this you still have your state weight classes for tournaments. The purpose is to make the duals exciting and mean something at all levels and finding a way to penalize forfeits. As stated, let's support JB in pushing this at college level first.

I'm a little shocked we haven't heard rumors or signing of Woodly. My guess was a California school but figured there'd be an announcement by now. Was there no interest in signing him or did he just decide again not to compete this year?
