If I would have known there was a complete idiot up in the review box I would have sent several hundred dollars up to him at the beginning up the session. Just to insure I would get a fair shake in case I threw an ill-advised brick during a match. If I am up by 3 with 1 minute to go and my guy is wrestling well. I'm not going to throw the brick. I would tell Cannon who loves to scramble to dial it down a notch and secure the win. I will say ref upstairs did an extremely poor job in his review of the 2 points that he took away. The ref upstairs was from Oklahoma. He should have recused himself.

If you are going to come in and try to take my wrestler that my staff and I have put 3 years of development into and now is an all-American. I have a problem with that. We are already giving him a full scholarship and a very good NIL package. I feel if you want to take him you need to compensate (or buy-0ut) to get him. My coaching staff's ability to develop the athlete for 3 years has value. The education he received for 3 years has value. I'm just asking for compensation. My argument is you didn't recruit him out of high school. You took no risk; you have no time involved and you have no money involved. But now that he is an all-American you want him. The NCAA will hopefully address this or only 7 or 8 teams will have 80 percent of the top talent. Maybe that is what you want.

Sort of like a sub-contractor. I'm not a lawyer. But you know when there have been hundreds of powerful lawyers involved sorting (Battling) these things out in courts, that this doesn't seem like a simple issue. Thats usually because there is a great deal of money and power involved. The Third Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that athletes may be considered employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act. FSLA. Also NLRB has weighed in and suggesting college athletes could be considered employees under the National Labor Relations ct. Again, I'm not a lawyer.

If you sign a contract to receive something (an education) ( value a lot) for your service for a year. You have to abide by said contract or you can lose your compensation. That sounds like an employee to me.

We all didn't say so back then. Most of us wanted some change without taking away all the good things about NCAA Wrestling. I was for across-the-board stipends,(to start with) that are very similar to what the military academies have been getting for years. Try it for a few years then access things and see what can be done better.

We are there now with no guiderails. It would be a good idea for some intelligent people to take a hard look at where we are and what can be done to improve it.

You only signed a one year contract. But most athletes in wrestling are in college for 5 years. I guess I am old school. If I recruit an athlete for the 5 years. I would like him to stay for 5 years. Let's say he comes my school, and he redshirts. Then we put a lot a time and effort into helping him to develop into and all-American by his sophomore year. If someone else now wants him ok. I will put a cash value on what the school and my coaching staff have put in in developing the athlete in the 3 years he was with us i order to be compensated. It just seems like fair value marketing to me.

They both now have pro athletes. Both are able to negotiate for the amount of pay they want. Both can choose to go to an opposing team to get paid more money. The pro athlete has to sign a contract and abide by the contract. Right now, the Pro college athlete doesn't have to sign a contract. That just seems illogical to me.

What if the school used the wrestler's likeness and name. I know in football they put their names on Jerseys and on all types of merchandise that the school sells. I know Ohio State sells close to 200million dollars' worth of athletic related merchandise each year.
