What a college welcome for Stillwell…did he piss in Smith’s wheaties? Lol. He sure wasn’t scared of Bastida, which is awesome.

He definitely was not. I was surprised to see him honestly. Didn’t matter who we went out, result was the same. Mayfield had a good win also. Glad to see him back.

Iowa state wins the dual, but Mendoza beats Jacob Frost 8-2. Good win for the young true freshman.

I legitimately think he would pace top 3 at 149 this year. Casey seems to have his number a bit but with the weight as wide open as it is I think a guy that never gets out of your face who can scramble and attacks both sides is a good guy to bet on.

I tend to agree. However, we know whether we like it or not, Edmond will get the post season nod.

I’m so happy Mayfield is back. Idk if I could’ve watched another match where Conway does nothing

And we all know Edmond will do what he's done his entire career at Mizzou, very cautious and positional on his feet, zero effort to ride, 1-1 regulation, 4-1 win pt loss, flip a coin.  Might get him to blood round, but I wouldn't place a wager on it.

Edmond and Gabe Arnold have similar styles, except Gabe might try to ride a little longer.  Both will fall short of their potential if they don't open up their attacks.

Just watched the match on YouTube and I saw a 197 morphed to Hwt attacking legs and wrestling like a lightweight vs a jacked Stillwell that has a bright future if he can develop offense.  My only fear is that Dom Bradley, being MU hwt coach, and anyone that has watched Dom wrestle over the years, is aware of his tactical low scoring approach to wrestling. How often did Dom leg attack and how did that workout during the Steveson years of FS?

Heavyweights are just super big athletes today and if Stillwell doesn't develop attack skills, he may see the podium in the future, like Elam did, but it won't be the top steps.  Send him back to train with Cox and improve his offensive leg attacks, or, Rocky come home after winning a title in college and give Mizzou a stud uppers coach that you didn't have.

Did he burn his redshirt?

I was was wondering the same thing when I saw the dual results, but Smith is loyal to his athletes, almost to a fault, and where would that put Edmond?

I think 149 this year might be the weakest weight I've ever seen.

It is pretty bad. I think Van Ness is probably the best guy, but I would like to see him have to earn it at NCAA's. My fear is that won't happen.

I don't think so but not sure what tournaments are considered part of the "5 events". Here's where Mendoza participated:

- NDI: Based on comments from others, I think this counts?

- Cougar Clash: Not sure if this counts but the brackets had him as MIZZ, not Unattached.

- Soldier Salute: Same...bracket has him as MIZZ, not Unattached.

- Cyclone Open: Same...bracket has him as MIZZ.

- Oklahoma State: Counts

- West Virginia: Counts

- Iowa State: Counts

So either he used 4 of 5 (if the open tournaments didn't count) or he lost his redshirt.

Nope, was his last free date. He was Unattached in some tournaments. At the beginning of the year he was slated as the starter at 141, Smith said it himself multiple times so he knew Seth was ready coming in. Apparently he grew too big and can’t get down. It happens. However even though he’s by all accounts ready and gives us and the team the best shot, we will roll one more post season of Edmonds. Honestly I would’ve had Josh go to 141 and let Seth have 149.

Van Ness is far and away the best guy but he's shown a history of getting "caught" or giving up easy takedowns.  If he doesn't do something stupid, he could bonus his way through the tournament. His only non-bonus wins this year are a 7pt and 6pt win.   It should be better next year with the addition of Bassett.   Bassett would be a finalist this year.

Bassett is expected to go 141 I believe. Caleb Henson will be back at 149 and Seth Mendoza will be there as well. Whoever OK State runs out at 149 next year is going to be a hammer as well. Could be Vega, Raney or the Ski.

Must be misremembering but thought Henson was going up to 57.  Or does Gaj go up?

Henson has said he's going 157 I believe.  Getting closer to 74KG for '28 as I don't believe he thought he could hold 65KG.

On Flo they said that Henson has long term plans for 65kg

They may be correct but I do know that Henson is currently cutting to get to 70kg.  65kg seems really far for him.

When it was announced that he was RSing, everyone also said he was going up to 157.

That is what I thought as well but they seem adamant that Henson sees himself as a 65kg for 2028 and a 149 next year. He always looked huge at 149 to me.
