It was hilarious the number of breaks that Faith's coach was able to get for Bachmann by just sort of casually walking across the middle of the mat to summon over the ref for a chat.  😅  Bro knows how to get his boy a break.

I thought most of the stall calls were warranted, save maybe one, but the cautions were crazy.  The last two were clearly on Bassett.

In theory they could meet a couple more times this year but I dunno... Bachmann doesn't look like he wants any part of being on the mat with him.

Unfortunately FCA can probably dodge if they want to. With Jax and Herring seemingly off to college, small herring and O'farrill hurt I do not really see how BM keeps it competitive with them.

Waters does not look right. He had none of his usual explosiveness

Waters got hurt in his quarterfinal and wasn't the same after, unfortunately. A White-Waters (😏) final would've been really interesting

Miller tried to win a 4-1 match, wanted to stand up to fix headgear, and James took advantage, then Miller didn’t have the tank or offensive urgency to win an OT match.

no reason for Bachmann to to ride in the third, you’re already flustered and have several locked hands/cautions/stallings in the second, think he rode him to not get teched: he at least had re attacks on his feet. Makes no sense not to cut him imo

The way the refs gave those cautions out like candy they would have stalled him out of the match on the feet

Was FCA penalized any team points for all those table conferences?

Its just so weird.  I thought at least three of those cautions were on Bassett.  I couldn't see the hands, so I cant comment on if those calls were good.  And the ref kept varying his start whistle.  Sometimes it was as soon as they Bachmann touched the elbow, sometimes it was 1 second set.  The stall that came immediately after Bachmann escaped at the edge and Bassett drove him out was hilarious.  There may have been another where Bachmann shot Bassett to the edge, then Bassett flipped around, shot Bachmann out, and it was a stalling call on Bachmann.  I thought the crowd itself was like "WTF are you doing?"

That said, it was clear to me that Bassett was the better wrestler, but I would have loved for the ref not to involve himself so much.

This is what a ref is supposed to do, at least in high school.  Vary the start whistle.

Otherwise, I have been hearing bad stuff about Ohio high school officiating for 30 years, and it doesn't sound like it is getting better.

No bite. Crossface caught teeth. The call was sold and the Ref did what he had to do. He certainly didn't see a bite happen...

From the OHSAA rulebook:

Biting, or any form of flagrant misconduct, is not to be taken lightly.

Firstly: If the bite occurs at a place where the defensive wrestler may have bitten himself/herself, the official must see the biting action.

Just seeing a cross face doesn't necessarily mean the defensive wrestler was bitten.

The official should see the clamping action of the jaws during the bite.

Secondly: The biting incident must be promptly addressed when it occurs.

If the wrestler is bitten on his thigh, shoulder, or the back of his leg the official should certainly recognize he/she could not have bitten himself/herself in these places.

The referee should look for both the upper and lower sets of teeth marks indented in the flesh of the aggrieved wrestler.

Please remember the referee should look for the sharp edge impression of the teeth, seeing the entire outline of the teeth may indicate a cross face with the defensive wrestler turning into it.

Thirdly: Once the referee is sure of a biting incident, it is important to handle this situation without delay.

I'm aware. It's been tossed about...

Ah, I hadn't seen it until I searched around Google for the PDF. According to the rules, the ref got it wrong
