I always enjoyed watching him wrestle.  His match with JF in 2022 was awesome.  I hope he figures out whatever comes next.  I've known a few kids that kind of sound like him...maybe a little gobsmacked by life after high school.  Hopefully, there are some good adults around who can show him some possibilities with and without wrestling.

I am glad you said it first. I told my kid to watch the interview and tell me what he thought.  I am going to sound like a complete a$$hole, but he seems really slow and has a hard time processing things.  Maybe that is all the concussions? I do not know. Hell, he seemed almost stoned. I do wish him the best, and he had a ton of talent, I would hate to see that wasted.

I agree. I'll just address the elephant in the room. I personally will be very surprised if he gets into the Naval Academy, especially if what other above has said about Kolat not being able to pull strings for him.

I agree. I don't know how all that stuff works. I know how the AF works only because of the recruiting process, maybe the Navy is similar? I didn't catch what he said was wrong with his hand, I skipped through alot of the interview.

Graduation rate is upward of 90% at USNA for a reason. They will not take a flyer on him if there is no chance for him to get the grades required to progress towards graduation. No idea what his academic background is but it doesn't feel like a traditional academy resume. Prior enlisted get into academies all the time but not sure it is the same steps as appointed. Also, it can't help his chances with BUDS/USNA that he acknowledged prior head injuries on youtube.

An enlisted sailor doesn't get any sort of preference for attending the academy in comparison to any other applicant. It can help being enlisted when all things are equal between two prospective attendees because naval service is a type of experience you can't recreate as a HS student.

I also wouldn't think that Kolat would be restricted from putting him on his recruiting list to help him out if he is going to commit to wrestling. He will still have all his eligibility.
