There are clearly two sides in America, and maybe even globally (I suspect the latter). Call it a Civil War, Ideology War, Religious War, or a flat-out Paradigm shift, things are going to be very different in the next 10 years. I worked in Politics for my first 10 years of my career, as an Aide in the State Senate for a Democrat. I also served on two gubernatorial panels.

In those 10 years, I never saw the anger and Visceral behavior I have seen in the past few years. Nor have I ever seen so much lying and criminal behavior, without a single worry of consequence.

The right has a strong agenda of what they claim is giving America "back to the people", but I question that on many levels. I currently live in Florida, the capital of crazy, weird sh@#. People who claim to be "for the people and freedom" (DiSantis) create more laws and restrictions than I have ever seen. He is not for freedom; he is for doing things his way. They go too far in one direction to compensate for how far another state goes in the opposite direction. Makes no sense. He banned books in school that I don't think kids should be reading. However, if you ban a book because you don't like it, you should also listen to the issues people have with it. That is a simple example, but I am telling you, we need fewer laws and more meaningful ones; what we really need is accountability, not legislation.

Now, on the left, the biggest red flags I see, and that also have me concerned, are that people go into fight or flight when they are threatened. I am talking about the higher-ups, not the plebeians. The anger, hate, and promotion of violence is insane to me; you only do that when you feel the system you built and profit from us being threatened. Whatever that may be, they are running scared. This goes way beyond if you want to identify as a unicorn or a dinosaur. They lie to our faces, despite clear video evidence, and do so without impunity.

The real losers in this fight are middle Americans, the people who truly want to go to work, pay their bills, raise their kids, watch their sports, concerts, or plays, have a steak now and again, and enjoy a few beers or tea at night. They want a fair system, not a perfect system; they don't want to be told what to believe, how to think, or how to spend their time and money. They don't want perfect.

These two sides keep dividing us, violence keeps rising, and we are seeing more anger.

This is not, nor will it ever again be, the world most of us (over 40) grew up in. Interested to see where it all leads.

P.S. Cake solves many problems.

I contend we have always been this divided.  It is just now out in the open.  Recent leaders have given people permission to be their true selves in public.

I cannot argue that at all; I agree, but it feels like we are going beyond "disagreeing". I could be wrong, though.

This is because the right has the power right now, and they are abusing it w/ impunity. People generally get violent when the other side has technical/legal power and they are abusing it. It's happened since the beginning of time.

The right is pretty violent too though, so that's a big part of the problem. Look at the instigating by Trump, his use of the military and ICE, etc.

Wow, here we try and have a civil intellectual conversation, and here you come stumbling in, spewing hate for the right... You seem to be getting angrier with age, such an uncivil person. You might want to try gummies or something; maybe they'll help.

But I should actually be thankful, you just reinforced my entire point.

I stated that both sides have issues, only stated that violence is getting worse, and didn't even blame anyone. Yet here you come with your blind, pure hatred (Which is really something you should get help for), and attack one side. Sad really, I feel like my life sucks right now, (why I came back, to be around the one group of people that make me happy, wrestling people), but at least I am not this angry. Soo angry

Not as violent as the right but they can, of course, cherry pick examples of liberals losing their cool.

This is the best assessment of our politics that I have seen.   I'm not just sucking up here.   This is very well reasoned in my opinion.  Not living in FL I can't comment.   But I think you nailed it there V.

Under Biden, they weren't waiting in hospitals, schools, or at court houses using heavy handed tactics.  Now they unnecessarily break car windows and go straight to use of force.

Is there a specific place illegal aliens should or should not be apprehended?

Was the killing of Kirk "Figurative"?

Anyway, my original points clearly stands; I'm just bummed about the direction it's heading.

Can we all agree that cake could go a long way in repairing these relationships?

Thanks, I wasn't trying to take sides; I just shared my experience and a bit of insight, but I should know better here. It's like dancing in an alligator pit in Lady Gaga's meat suit.

They shouldn't.  Unless they commit a real crime other than their immigration status.  At which time, deportation proceedings can go through their process and deport.  But the current reign of disappearing folks without notifying counsel or loved ones is nothing short of tyranny.

Kirk's death wasn't incited by anyone in power.  It was carried out by some disaffected kid.

So who hired and trained these terrorists?  The current administration hasn't had time.
