4 solid choices, recent bias will tell us it’s just 2.

Gray 6 Gold, 1 silver and 3 Bronze 67-76kg

Maroulis 5 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze 53-58kg

Saunders 4 Gold, 1 silver 46-50kg

Marano 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze. 67-75kg

I’ve been somewhat surprised at all the Moroulis GOAT talk with little to no mention of Adeline.  Seems disrespectful.

Curious for someone to lay out the full cases.  Gray, by the numbers, has a very strong case.

I think there's a distinction with greatest and most accomplished. They're not always synonymous with one another. Even on the women's side of things, the upper weights, especially the heaviest, gets generally panned.

I think people tend to lean Maroulis due to her technique at a lower weight, which can seem generally more appealing. Adeline rips people's arms off, but isn't as quick comparatively. It's a great discussion to have either way.

Insert catchy tagline here.

No disrespect to Adeline, but IMO, you can’t be considered the GOAT if you haven’t reached the pinnacle of the sport with an Olympic gold. My vote goes to Helen

Argument doesn't help Saunders, who didn't have that opportunity. But yeah, Maroulis has the gold and beat the world GOAT to do it.

While folks consider whom to choose, I would like to make sure it is well understood and respected that weight classes exist for a reason.

The answer should be Gray all day.

For me this is where I edge Helen.  The depth of the competition at the weight(s) over Gray, and the development of the sport since the time of Saunders.

Well said.  I get this.  Not sure I agree with the stance but maybe I do.  I love Helen’s repertoire.

interesting.

Fair to suggest that if we put Snyder in with Gray’s numbers and Burroughs in with Helen’s numbers, many would say Burroughs is the GOAT given Snyder’s limited technique set (that he shows at least)?

The technical set is more personal preference. They're two different styles of wrestling. Can't necessarily wrestle the same way at every weight class.
