It’s actually a canal, not a retention pond.  I can take the boat west and head to that big body of water surrounded by sand you see in the other picture. Or…I can take it east, north, or south and pull up to restaraunts, shops, or friends houses, or just chill in the connected lakes.  Lots of options.   It’s a unique little trait of this area of the cesspool.

It is the for the most part. I've been down there plenty of times. Was in Gulf Shores in March for example (with the in-laws family). Yah, there was some nice stuff but we agreed that we'd rather go somewhere else next time. And driving through Mississippi and Alabama and Memphis? Some major cesspools. Absolutely horrible.
