When will the wrestling community admit there's a problem?

i've been too harsh on this topic, i should have just said I don't think this is a problem that "the wrestling community" needs to answer more specifically than any other group of sufficient size.

I think the line is saying or doing things that go against what most people would consider civilized behavior. Like not handling criticism, telling kids and parents who ask for a reasonable accomodation for something that they are weak and should leave or other non printable things. Then when people on social media talk about them, interrupt and threaten to assault them. You know things like that. I had one now deceased youth coach threaten to sue me and send me harassing messages because I told him he was a conspiracy theory crank (which he was). Then he told me that he knew all of these famous wrestling people and he could do whatever he wanted because of that.

I think there’s a good chance former wrestlers commit traditional assaults at a higher rate than the general population.

I’m not so sure they commit more sexual assaults at a higher rate, if that was the implication from the OP.

That isn't what I was getting at. 

We have a problem with ignoring things that coaches or good wrestlers do because of who they are. We have things like this going on where nobody really steps up to say anything because of who he is.

People in the wrestling world are very forgiving of very good wrestlers and coaches.

citing something from a decade ago doesn't help your narrative that it's an epidemic.

it's all abhorrent, of course.

i just don't see any evidence that it's anything close to more prevalent in wrestling than in other sports.

Ok, I guess I misunderstood.  But how would that apply to women’s coaches who most people have no clue who they are?

Why did it take Caitlyn Davis so long to speak up? Why did a national championship winning coach resign in the middle of the night and skip town? It's also hard for colleges because do they want to admit they hired somebody like that and damage their reputation, not just for wrestling, but for everything? I bet that less than half the people who post here couldn't tell us that coach's name without reading about it or looking it up. But SOU protected their brand. So that's why things like this happen.

To be fair, most people have probably never even heard of Southern Oregon University

I have.   Former World Champion Fred Fozzard was an assistant there.   He coached at a wrestling camp I attended in my teens.  Major studly dude.   As it turns out my father in law knew him in HS.   Tried to get him on the wrestling team but he didn't do it.  His family needed money so he worked instead.  He helped support his mother and siblings.
