He seems to go to X very quickly.

My guess is that if he can go to X that quickly and be recalcitrant, he could probably avoid embarrassment in the first place.  Maybe even graduate high school in 6 years?

My friend, 8 out of your last 10 posts have been about Penn State.  You need a therapist.  Your obsession is concerning

I have proof!  From when I commented

Also, terrible sportsmanship by 21 year old frosh Barr. Give Trent his moment!

-Hats off to Levi, BTW

- Duke is really good. PSU found a real diamond in the rough. Yianni seems to be slipping. He should be a great coach.

-I'm not a Dylan fan. However, Dylan prob doesn't want or need Barr's prayers. Barr should prob pray for himself and to stop himself from throwing child-like tantrums. Maybe Barr should pray that he graduates college at a reasonable age. Not many 21 year old freshmen

- I mean... a heavyweight that gives up 15?

Huh? What World team winner?

-"I'm not a Penn State fan" This is about Hidlay and Barr. Who did PSU pay to be on the world team?

We have a ton of heavyweights who have proven they are good enough to win age group medals. Hilger isn't one. I'm nervous about Wyatt's baseline defense.

- Completely untrue. PSU doesn't get hurt or sick, nor do they marry drama queens.

I saw a lot of folkstyle scrambling vs Gable, unfortunately.  Won't work out well for FS.

correct, he used folkstyle tactics in a folkstyle match. the point is about shifting strategies when needed

Unfortunately only saw the highlights.  What positions/exchanges did he get himself in trouble with?

Hilger was getting in way too easily.

Gotcha but was Hilger getting in on his legs, able to suck him in and break through his hips?  Was Wyatt getting into bad situations that a seasoned international heavy would expose?  Is there an exchange that was glaringly bad?

Yes, to all of the above, especially when Hilger scored 4 on a leg attack.  You go down 4 vs Zare, you probably aren't getting those back.

Right.  I hope he wins gold.

But... guys shouldn't be touching his legs.  Don't you agree?

I also don't think he  "let" Gable get in deep.

He should button up his defense at Worlds for sure. I think he was a bit careless in that match and it showed. I am not picking him to win Gold and I wouldn't have even if he 10-0'd Hillger a second time because the weight class has some killers. I do think he's a strong medal threat though.

My takeaway from the 2 match series is Hendrickson has insane offensive output and will need to be more selective and more defensive at Worlds. I have seen him do that in the past when needed so I think he can do it again.

I think he's a medal threat.  I wouldn't be surprised with 2nd or 3rd.  I'd love to see a 1st.  Not saying it is impossible, but he definitely needs to clean stuff up.  Thankfully Zare won't be going into low level shots!

Thoughts:

--Lee looks as good as ever. Not as quick, but yet he outwrestled Luke in neutral.  Expected him to dominate on top, but thought Luke would be closer on his feet.

--Woods' style seems to have really opened up.  Mich was a good move.  Don't see him medaling but you never know.  Feel for McKenna.  Yianni should've been here.

--Holy cow, PJ.  Does this settle the "best high schooler of all time" debate?  Knocks off 2 defending NCAA champs and now a 4x'er.  I guess Jax may have something to say in a month.  That said, Yianni looked small.  He should be at 65kg.

--Carr got it done.  Could easily have gone the other way.  The cut in Mesenbrink's head was probably his biggest enemy as it caused lots of stoppages.  Carr's just so quick though, and if he can keep his conditioning in top form, he can keep winning this matchup.  Carr can medal.

--Levi looks good and methodical, but I'm not sure I see a medal.  Dake should be here.

--Really happy for Zahid.  He's really putting it together and you can tell how he's improved with Taylor. His conditioning is better too.  Dake has no business being here.  That's 2 world teamers that we lost because they're too lazy to cut weight.  Sorry not sorry.

--What a war.  Psyched for Trent.  Good battle.  Trent can medal.

--Snyder looks smooth, though I'm not sure Zillmer had much for him.

--Wyatt got exposed there a bit.  He can medal but needs to tighten up a bit.  He's not going to be able to gut guys at worlds like that.  Fun though.  2nd match, and 2nd match of PJ/Yianni, were ones for the ages.  (Side note:  CP needs to learn the difference between a 4-pointer and a 5 pointer.)

All good thoughts. I agree I’d like to see Dake at 79. Im sure he could easily make it and most likely win a World gold there. However, in his defense, I don’t think it’s laziness that he doesn’t want to cut weight. I think he doesn’t really care too much about another world gold… he is just 100% focused on that elusive Olympic gold. Going up now gives him more time to grow into the weight and increases his chances of getting that Olympic gold, so I can’t disagree with his thought process there. Kinda sucks as a fan though knowing we are probably missing out on another world medal.

Mostly agree. I think Luke is just really fast not sure Spencer looked slow. I have been super pessimistic about our 74kg guys even after carr beat Takatani but he seems to be his best when the moment matters the most I do wonder how what’s going on with Ben impacted Mitchell. I do not think anyone at 79kg this year was a top 10 in the world caliber wrestler which is a shame. Wyatt is really hard to predict I don’t think any of his main international opponents present the issues Trent did but at the same time Trent is probably 0-2 bbq at worlds. I’m expecting 5 medals but I think our 2027 and 2028 teams will probably be the best we have have ever had I will add I think yianni was the better wrestler currently for 70kg and I think he would have medal’d I do not think PJ will.

Really? Who is there besides Zare that's really good?

Akgul retired, Geno is taking the year off, and Massoumi can't make a team or get his transfer approved.

Who's left from the actual field? Big boring Monkhtor and grandpa Deng? Russia is mediocre at 125 kg, they don't have anyone good.

Heavyweight is not looking strong.

Spencer said he himself sucks.

He’s a humble ambassador of the sport.  Some of our greats should learn how to speak in public.  He is a role model.

Dake is old. He is older than Saitiev was when he retired. But he wants that olympic gold, the holy grail of wrestling, to complete his career.

Dake made the calculation that a 37 year old him will have a better chance winning at 86 kg than 74. He's probably right, but I don't think he'll win at 86 kg either.

He choked at the Paris olympics. That was his chance. I think he'll just have to be content as one of the many great wrestlers who never won the olympics. The sport may force him out soon.

It’s probably naive to think that a 37 year old dake would be better than a 34 year old but I could see him as our best rep if he grows into the weight. His ability to push for 6 minutes just did not seem to be there.
