When I was young, and they packed me off to school
And taught me how not to play the game

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I didn't mind if they groomed me for success
Or if they said that I was just a fool

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I left there in the morning with their God under my arm
Their half-assed smiles and the book of rules

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Well, you can excommunicate me on my way to Sunday school
And have all the bishops harmonize these lines

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

And they taught me how not to play the game
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success
Or if they said that I was just a fool
So to my old headmaster and to anyone who cares
Before I'm through, I'd like to say my prayers
Well, you can excommunicate me on my way to Sunday school
And have all the bishops harmonize these lines

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I don't believe you
You had the whole damn thing all wrong
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays

I. myself, haven't the pleasure to see Jethro Tull in concert... great that you saw them when you did.

(AND... not surprised that you were the youngest there, watching them. The Gray-heads will usually outnumber the younger initiates to the "music of our generation." 😉)

Earlier in this string, I mentioned that Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, was "briefly" w/ Jethro Tull...

A photo of Mr. Iommi himself w/ Ian and the band.

That is Tony.

My first concert was Sabbath in a 2800 seat theater.  I was pretty close to the action, which actually included a stonehenge replica on stage. (lol spinal tap)

Best flautist in rock, and it is not even close

My late wife played the flute... 😏 I asked her if she would play some Jethro Tull on it.

(AND, she gave me "That Look.")

😒

The first album I ever bought was the 8-track version of "Songs from the Wood" in about 1978.  It's still my favorite album and Jethro Tull is still my favorite group.  I have every Tull album on vinyl now up to Broadsword and the Beast, though I rarely listen to vinyl anymore.

The first concert I saw was Jethro Tull and Uriah Heep at the Checkerdome in St. Louis.  Maybe 1979 or 1980.
