As a young adult, I thought a small military, like Canada’s, was enough and that big armies were trouble. Then I read a Marine’s essay on ‘peace through strength,’ and it clicked: evenly matched armies drag out destructive wars, but overwhelming strength deters fights or ends them fast, like a five-day war. I still believe in non-interference and putting our nation first, but a dominant military keeps us safe.

What’s something you’ve changed your mind about completely, and what made you shift?
