Not sure if this was a previous topic or discussed on previous thread. So I apologize if it was.

Any 🐯 fans have any insight as to why Mizzou parted ways with Tyrel Todd the week between B12s and NCAAs? Teams don't generally let associate head coaches go midseason, let alone the week before NCAAs, unless something happened behind the scenes. If it was a performance issue it seems like you'd just part ways after the season.

I believe this has been in the works for quite some time. Tyrel Todd is a great guy, super friendly and a lot of the wrestlers have nothing but positive things to say about him as a person. I, myself, really like him as a person.

I think the next coaching announcement will be a better fit.

I feel like this whole statement is a contradiction of itself. If he's a great guy, super friendly, etc. why/how has been letting him go "been in the works for quite some time"?

Just because someone is a great guy, does not necessarily mean they are great in their job. Some people do great as a manager at one location, but are not very successful at another. That does not change that they are still a nice person.

I like Tyrel Todd. I also am glad he is no longer in the room coaching at Mizzou. I would have dinner with him. Given a choice, I would not want him coaching my offspring.

So, in other words, Mizzou feels like he's not a good coach. You should have added that into the statement about him being nice.

But that still doesn't make sense as to why they would let him go a week before NCAAs. Why not just wait until after the season is over if this was a performance based decision?

I do not know that is exactly how Mizzou feels. You asked for Mizzou fans insights. That is my take as a fan and what I have gathered from other fans. I am not in the meetings with coaches.

I agree the the timing was shocking. While I did not expect to have him back next year (I was a bit surprised he was around this past year), I also was not expecting him to not be at NCAAs.

LOL. It's not you, it's me.

My understanding is they pushed him out because they wanted to give Keegan O'Toole a full-time coaching job and I'm assuming to make sure he stays after graduation. With Tyrel, they used the rational that as the top assistant it was time for him to find a head coaching position... and they helped out by taking his current job. Tyrel is the salt of the earth and an outstanding coach; anyone suggesting that he did anything to deserve this is just trying to make excuses for a pretty lousy way to treat someone.

If you don't want to say, it's fine, but...what is his coaching style that you wouldn't want him coaching your kid?

If you're referring to me, that was not my intention whatsoever. I have zero insight on the situation. I more so meant the OP to be an indictment on Mizzou than on Todd himself. If Todd didn't do anything wrong/bad behind the scenes, and the fired him a week before NCAAs, that's not right IMO and should have been handled differently.

Nope, not referring to you. You're just asking the question. I'm referring to the Mizzou fan in here who is suggesting Todd is a bad coach.

Even if it was the plan to replace Todd, doing after Big 12s but before NCAAs would indicate something else occurred.   Maybe it didn't but it seems like a logical assumption.

This was my whole point. Thanks for better clarifying my thought(s).

I did not know this, this is a shocker. BUT, I was told 2 years ago that Smith was going to retire and Maple was the HC in waiting. This was all during the OU HC job search.  Now, maybe that is still going to happen, but I think Maple would be a great HC and I could not be that patient.

I heard the same thing this year and the thought was it would occur after the season.
