I agree future is critical and he understands. It depends on which side of the line you politically agree with, regarding the future he’s interested in. The left says his it’s own, the right says America. Right and wrong, at its core, always wins out with me.

Trump is gathering data.  Finding out things for the future.  He’s a nationalist but also smart enough To realize that globalization is happening whether anyone wants it to or not.  As it happens countries that aren’t self sufficient are going to get gobbled up by those that are.  There are only  going to be a few options available for non self sufficient countries to hook their ships to.  They better choose wisely.

Dude...ALL of them that will, have been aligning their "ships" with us.

What THIS did was align Japan, North Korean and China.

And again, if you don't understand the gravity of that...that's fine, because we kinda skate over how evil the Japanese were during WWII. As opposed to the Nazi's, they don't really teach it or talk about it in school, they just...don't believe about the raping of the Chinese and then Korean pleasure women, the...well, it gets uglier. But there's no love lost there.

And yet, they've formed an alliance.

I also don't even know what this means though. "Countries that aren't self sufficient are going to get gobbled up by those that are." In what sense? Is this that "The US will take Greenland," nonsense?

Trump thinks you can go back to an Economy from before automobiles. That's what he ran on.

The United States....we WERE WINNING. He could have taken the economy, built on it, bragged he had the best economy ever again.

Of course, he thinks he can run for another term after this one, so who knows what's in Trumps mind. You've gone from mocking the prospect that this could lead to a recession or depression to assuming Trump will come to his senses. That's amusing.

He may even believe that he's doing what's best(I don't believe that, but lets give him the benefit of the doubt). It's not.

Best case, he unrolls it after some superficial "concessions."

Right now the Republicans are considering a tax increase on those making a million or more a year. 40-41% marginal tax rate at a million while others want to go back to Obama levels, 36/37%at 683K or so.

We'll have to see...

This whole thing seems like a disaster. Why are we supposed to trust a guy who has had to declare bankruptcy 6 times with his own businesses and bankrupted no less than 3 casinos with his mismanagement?

Because we’re $36 trillion in debt.  Something has to change or we’ll keep spending ourselves out of being a country.  Congress obviously doesn’t care.

Per Newsweek there is a lot going on in Congress as regards sanctions, secondary sanctions etc.

 https://www.newsweek.com/white-house-explains-why-russia-not-included-trumps-new-tariffs-2054548

Full list in this article

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-reciprocal-tariff-chart-2054514

South Africa is on the list.  Some heavily sanctioned countries are excluded (Cuba, North Korea, Russia).  Iran is included.

It will be interesting how this list shakes out over time.  I try to avoid the non wrestling forum category but tariff reciprocity has pros and cons, upsides and downsides, economic and political ramifications of interest.

Sure. If these were ANYTHING resembling reciprocal, then...yeah, there'd be some argument for some of them.

They are not. They were just made up "tariff rates," based upon trade deficits.

By the time Trump is finished destroying the US economy it will have been surpassed by China as the world's largest economy. How many trillions in US wealth has Trump cost us already?

You'd think the multiple bankruptcies would've clued people in on that fact, wouldn't you?

Dems spent four years hiding Bidens incompetence until they no longer could anymore. Then they thru him out with the trash.  And you sheeples went along with it.  Speaking of being clued in

We were told to trust the competence of Biden for almost four years while Dems knew he was senile. Once Dems couldn’t hide it anymore they dumped him.  And they paid for it

Clearly another massive upper class tax giveaway is necessary to get rid of the debt, eh?

There are people who have different opinions or are interested in justifying what Trump is doing(not sure how)...and then there's 'lil Jimmy. He's just taking his replies straight off twitter and almost none of them actually make sense.

The WORST thing you can possibly do if you want to cut the debt...is to see your GDP go from growing at nearly 4%(which is what Biden left him with) to watching it contract...which is what will invariably happen if Trump doesn't do an about face and pull back on these tariffs.

What is beyond doubt now is that this is not the Republican Party. They've abandoned all principles they had. It's just...an incoherent following of Trump no matter how much damage it does to this Country.

-Family Values
-Free Market
-Conservationist(that one has been hit or miss for years)

The GOP died when conservatives were too afraid to push back against Trump OR they only started to do so on their way out...as Mitch McConnel is doing now.
