This just about sums it all up in one post... Thoughts?

If this is real.  I don't think 15th in their weight class recruits are really getting any real money that would result in a negotiator.  This looks more like someone who thinks the state of NIL is sad so they are making up a super sad story.

But if they're serious, they should receive about 2 pizzas for their work setting up the NIL deal for a mid level freshman wrestling recruit.

Jay Bilas was talking about this (albeit on the basketball front) the other day.

Until the athletes are considered employees by the school, there really isn't anything that can be done. The current laws that are on the books don't allow anyone to tell a student where they can go to school or how they can monetize their likeness. That applies to receiving money while not using their likeness. All of the other conversations about how we "wish things were" are silly.

If no one knows who this is then how can he/she have any image value?  Now is someone willing to pay him/her to play the sport ... well what is 15th at weight worth at NCAA tournament?  Probably not even half a point so ... 🤔

Why would we want to tell a student how they can monetize their likeness?  Why would we want to limit them from receiving money for any wrestling related reason?

Can you give some good examples of how college wrestlers have monetized their likeness?

There are a ton of wrestlers mentioning products to social media followers.  That is by far the most common way to monetize your likeness.

Then it should be easy to list one or two worth $100 to $250k ... for example what was Buchanan promoting?

Where did I ever say anything about hundreds of thousands of dollars?  Or Buchanan?

If you wanted to beat up a strawman, you didn't need to quote me to do it.

That was the question and what they are getting paid so where are the examples of image value?

AJ didn't get $100 to $250k of NIL to wrestle at OSU.

I don't see how athletes could not be considered employees once the House settlement goes into effect. Schools & athletic departments worry about this, because then it will be a matter of time before athletes unionize and further de-leverage their institutions. I look forward to being able to look up the compensation of d1 athletes at public universities.
