I don't think he'll bump up, but for the sake of argument, how do we think he'd do against Trumble? Kueter? Whoever else is coming back?

I think he’ll do well against both. To be honest the guy kinda a grew on me a bit during the tourney. He’s far from who he was when he won it all a few years back but he’s a work in progress both mentally and physically and I’m willing to give him a chance if he keeps himself out of trouble with less me, me, me and more we, we, we (what ever team he lands with).

My parents were in town for my kids’ Spring Break so we all watched the tournament together. They had never been exposed to AJ before. I explained his backstory, they watched his loss, wrestle back for 3rd, and Quint’s interviews. They loved him, and he honestly converted me somewhat. They don’t watch wrestling and are not goonish (à la Ferrari fam) in the least (Denver suburban folks). I think that’s data suggesting that this version of AJ is unequivocally great for the sport.

Kids loved him before the car crash.

He was very we we we while at OSU until he started getting caught for his various crimes. He still gives me that "I'll say whatever you want to hear" vibe.

But the OP I think he'd do well at HWT. His style fits the weight class - good D, occasional shots, strong like bull.

Love the term “strong like bull” - haven’t that phrase in decades!

Ferrari at HWT next year? The top 3 are done, and the next tier of HWTS are fairly uninspiring. I think Ferrari could take HWT.

I think he has elite defense. Having something elite makes you a tough out wherever you are.

He likely could get to a good 230lbs pretty easy. He would be in the title discussion

Bastida wouldn’t have a problem with AJ imo

AJ beat beat Bastida in the dual the year AJ won the National title.  Also I am not an AJ fan but with his strength (he's probably stronger than all of them anyway) and with HWT being a little easier next year.  I think he could win it all.
