I heard that the reason for the slipping and sliding was bc the mats were on an ice rink. True?

That's not quite accurate as for the reason for all the slipping and sliding on a slick mat. Most people don't know this, but the '93 games a little boy was asked to volunteer to unroll some mats at the world championships because one of the volunteers called in sick and they needed any help they could get. So they plucked a kid out of the stands who was on vacation and it was that day that the kid fell in love with the sport of wrestling.
