I admittedly have only watched Nasir Bailey wrestle twice, the All-Star and this match..

Both times he went into the third 0-1 and chose neutral and lost, and I don't remember him being close to a score against Bird, and he wasn't against Davis today..

Obviously he took 4th last year as a Frosh and has a lot of big wins, and I know he's great with tilts..

Is this how he always wrestles? In the two matches mentioned, he hasn't seemed interested in scoring from neutral in the first period, yet chooses neutral in the third rather than going down. Just curious to hear some thoughts.

the only time I ever recall him getting ridden out was this tournament last year against Vito. He can generate offense from neutral but he seems to have started coasting and then expecting to win the match with a few flurries which is just not going to work against the better guys. I do wonder if the cut is getting to him a bit and he does not have confidence going under and having to work in the third. He looked either hurt or dead tired against Chattanooga at the end there, he's and enormous 133 so I would not be shocked if hes having issues managing the weight.

Not commenting on Bailey’s strategy specifically, but I don’t see an issue with guys taking neutral if down 1-0 in the third (particularly if the other guy got his escape quickly).

You still need a takedown to win unless you’re counting on going to tiebreakers, and I’d say there’s usually a better chance of getting ridden for a minute then going to tiebreakers.  And of course with 3 point takedown you can get a takedown and give up an escape and win.

I agree, but if you can get an escape in less than a minute, you basically give yourself 3 minutes to get a takedown and if you can't, you go to rideouts.. if you choose neutral, you have to score a takedown in 2 minutes against someone who knows they just need to defend to win.

With Bailey it's been more his lack of urgency once taking neutral against both Byrd and Davis. He never really put a sprint on against either of them. A couple of attacks from space, but that's about it.

Barr with the win over Little 4-1 OT
