I would be curious to see how that works. One of the traditional jobs of the speaker is to put a tent on that circus (though republican speakers of late have had limited success at even that). As someone with no experience working with legislatures and probably little desire and even less capacity to spend extended amounts of time in DC, but with unlimited capacity to fight, I think it could be highly entertaining.

He also can’t get a security clearance.

Or, rather, shouldn’t.

Also, he can’t be president, so that’s another practical consideration.

From a recent WSJ article:

"As SpaceX deepened its ties with the national-security agencies in recent years, the company’s lawyers advised senior executives not to seek a higher security clearance for Musk that would give him access to details about sensitive programs SpaceX is involved in, according to people familiar with the matter.

The reason, these people said, was that Musk would have had to answer questions from the government about his contacts with foreign nationals and drug use previously reported by The Wall Street Journal. ...

The SpaceX lawyers began analyzing the risks of seeking a higher security clearance for Musk after the Journal reported in June of last year about Musk’s use of ketamine, according to one person familiar with the review. The lawyers and executives concluded that if SpaceX sought a higher security clearance, it would risk Musk being turned down, or worse, losing the top-secret clearance he already has."

What does that have to do with Elon Musk?

It’s to inspire the knuckleheads who say Musk couldn’t pass a background check to consider the futility of their statement, and of background checks.

The futility of background checks?

Are you suggesting that everyone, regardless of qualification, potential compromises or need to know, should have access to sensitive information?

Seriously?

Maybe he is saying Biden in theory should not pass a background check with all the shenanigans he was involved in?

serious question …. That you will likely dodge.  A man with his mental faculties.  Should he pass a background check and have access to the nuclear codes?

Eric Swalwell passed a background check.

Did you see Christine Fang?   Bucket list.  Could you turn it down?   No one ever gives away secrets when spadoonking hot Chinese spies do they?

you can’t tell me he doesn’t look like a bratty frat boy who gives away state secrets for a little in and out burger

Are you referring to the shenanigans the GOP’s star witness (who just plead guilty for perjury) made up?

Also:

Any statements about Biden’s mental acuity can be made about Trump. No one I know would hire a person with his inability to form a coherent sentence or clearly articulate a thought. Read the transcripts of his rallies or interviews. There are several primates who have used ASL to communicate more clearly than Trump can. He clearly has some form of dementia.

And, unlike Biden, he has at least one very clear instance of a security violation that, were he not the president, would have likely landed him in prison.

Ok.

Unless you have been diagnosed with a psychological disorder (I don’t know that either Biden or Trump have), perceived disability by the interviewer is not relevant when making a recommendation that would result in granting access to information. The men and women who conduct those interviews are not trained medical professionals and wouldn’t attempt to make any medical judgements. That’s not their job.

Drug use, divorces, bankruptcies, foreign contacts, etc. are all things that raise the eyebrows of security professionals.

There should be no medical/mental eval for the highest level background check?   Biden’s mental acuity is by exponential leaps and bounds worse than anyone who has occupied high level office in the last 100 or so years.   If you don’t see that you don’t want to.

I didn’t say that, anywhere.

I simply said that the *interviewer* is not a medical professional.

They should be.  Given we have someone who doesn’t know what day it is currently running the country.

I will point you all the way now back to @Offthemat’s comment about the futility of current background checks.   You’ve gone full circle here.

sir @Le duke you can refute these…. All seem to be published in the last few hours / days

This is the Wall Street journal.

When President Biden met with congressional leaders in the West Wing in January to negotiate an Ukraine funding deal, he spoke so softly at times that some participants struggled to hear him…..

…….. paused for extended periods and sometimes closed his eyes for so long that some in the room wondered whether he had tuned out.

President Joe Biden's inner circle kept his interactions short and tightly scripted, allowing his declining energy levels….. and mental decline.

A new report published Thursday revealed new insights into the White House’s efforts to conceal President Joe Biden’s severe cognitive decline over the last four years.
