Zare techs Wyatt easily after Wyatt looked very good this morning

Sina and Ghasempour are out

Ahmad Javan somehow makes the world finals again, winning 10-9, 3-2, and 3-1, after looking gassed 1 minute into his first match. He rematches Uguev in the final

Are you familiar with kurbanov who will wrestle Zare tomorrow ? How good is he.

Does Javan stand a chance against zaur

Sina wrestled before he gassed in the last minute. Loosing to ochir was expected . Ghasempoor got caught , he did beat ramazanov though . What's your thoughts guys on Ghasempoor and who could challenge him domestically for the 86 KG spot .

Zare just seems to be on a different level vs the field.  He looked like he was in 100% control of all positions against Wyatt.

Why did Wyatt have to try the YOLO chest wrap on the edge?  I thought he said he was giving up the chest wrap after flopping to his back last year?

I think today's results sealed the US team title tbh. For both Russia and Iran this is practically impossible to recover from. There is still Spencer Lee, Marcus Blaze, Levi Haines, Kyle Dake and Trent Hidlay to wrestle. Very big reality check for Iran freestyle. We are getting rinsed LA Olympics if this continues for the whole tournament.

Congrats . That's two bronze medals and potentially 1 silver and 1 gold for tomorrow.

First Amouzad controlled the whole match but didn't overcommit on the edge. He wrestled smart and after this match I'm reassured that against tevanyan he was conserving energy. Anyway Amouzad vs Bo would've been a far more interesting final. Amouzad is so hard to reach his legs with great hooks and counters vs a cardio freak.

Yazdani outmuscled Thazudinov and yaz style of wrestling works very well against wrestlers with low endurance

Very impressed with Yazdani's tournament.

Also impressed with his sportsmanship on the podium.  Actually all the 97s were smiling and congenial, even Yoshida who just had his heart ripped out.

Exactly my thoughts.

Yazdani did amazing and deserves a lot of credit

He wins his 11th world / Olympic medal at 97kg on his worlds debut at 97kg, and was 0.1 second away from reaching the finals

He will have the advantage in national trials now. Azarpira needs to reach another level to get on the team again by 2028

Is that always the rule in Iran that you have to beat the previous participant twice in a row to make the team. It would be more fair if they send Azarpira to a ranking tournament and asian championship and if he win both he could wrestle Yazdani for the spot in two best of three ,No matter who wins the first match.

More fair to whom?

Azarpira . He already beat Yoshida at asian games in Japan last month.

Plus In order for Hassan to win gold at 97 he'd most likely have to beat two of the top guys on day 1 and maybe within 1 hour, unless he gets lucky with the draw.

Same thing should apply for the team trials , you need to win twice . If they go 1 - 1  you have them wrestle a third match in the evening.

I didn't claim to know the rules for qualifying in Iran.

We all know Azarpira belong among the best at this weight and yazdani don't need this advantage.

The advantage is for medalists not every member

Yazdani had to beat Azarpira twice in a row to make the team this year. And Azarpira will likely have to do the same to make the team next year. Seems fair

Day 2 had way too much going on so I'm going to break it down by weight class.

Javan 61kg: He did what he had to do to make his second finals appearance. Honestly exceeded my expectations and wrestled very smartly against Blaze (although I didn't like the fake injury) and Kazakh. Against India he was getting gassed and pulled the same shenanigans and managed to recover some energy. Against Uguev he needs to wrestle with much more temp and speed if he wants a chance to beat Uguev. But is becoming a consistent medal threat at this weight class which we haven't had in a while.

Amouzad 65kg: Deserved to be in the final against Bassett. Again beat Mamedov who was more interested in defending than attacking. How there was no shot clock or warning is beyond me. Amouzad was clearly the better wrestler.

Khalili 70kg: As expected loses to Ochir. Not too shocked or surprised here. He needs to build more strength to survive in this weight class.

Ghasempour 86kg: I don't have any words. I don't want to talk about it.

Yazdani 97kg: He bullied Tazhudinov for 6 minutes straight and won points the way he was at 86 in the whizzer. Tazhudinov couldn't do anything. Also amazing moment with Sadulaev afterwards in front of the crowd.

Zare 125kg: He dominated Hendrickson who looked really in form. I guess he has learned from his mistake from previous years against shooters. He kept a very low guard and prevented Hendrickson from creating much. Very mature style of wrestling.

Kurbanov is a 97 KG who couldn't beat Sadulaev.  Zare will mop him.

I think Javan absolutely can beat Uguev.  Uguev, in my opinion, is 'just' an aged 57 KG guy.  Problem is, he has the strength for 61 KG still and has retained the speed.  He isn't big, though and is very good.  If Javan can control the pace, similar to Blaze, he could win it.

I know the kurbanov you're talkin about and pretty sure the 125 KG kurbanov is a different wrestler.

The 97 guy is Magomed Kurbanov who lost to Ghasempour at 92 worlds in Oslo. This is Abdulla Kurbanov who was a guy Masoumi beat a couple times in U20 and U23 worlds. He is a younger guy that has dominated the Russian 125 circuit for a while.

Right, and he's small.  I know there are two real good Kurbanov for Russia.

Historically selection for the national team was much more opaque than it is now. They have now adopted a mixture of the US and Russian approach which I think has worked out better. Essentially the way it works is as others have mentioned world/olympic medalists have to win one match against a competitor who has met the requirements to be a challenger (win Iran nationals, ranking tournaments etc). Azarpira beat Yoshida by faking injury time in a competition no one cares about. Once Yoshida and Azarpira's careers are over no one will look at Asian games medals as important. Only worlds and olympics matters. Azarpira had advantage over Yazdani in selection and still couldn't beat Yazdani once. This argument that Azarpira would have beaten Yoshida is ridiculous. Sujeet looked unstoppable in the Asian games teching Kudiev and then lost to him here. Worlds and Olympics is a different level.

Amir yazdani won 15-12 over cuba . As usual he ran out of juice in the first period and he has no chance against cheriev.

Firouzpour and Nokhodi both has tough quarters.

Valizadeh teched by Spencer lee.
