I was watching some old clips of the Geraei brothers a couple days ago and realised just how good they both were in their primes. Genuine magicians the both of them. I don't know how people can look at them and call greco boring. I don't think Iran currently has guys as technical as them apart from Esmaeili maybe. Even then the stuff they were doing I haven't seen Esmaeili do in this tournament.

i have not watched anything from since they were doing it live, but, i do vividly remember us watching them compete and just being amazed...

They are competing in PWL in Russia at 72 and 82. Neither of them are good enough anymore to make Iran's world team so they have decided to pursue other avenues. They would make amazing coaches in Shiraz and can develop some phenomenal talent for Iran at the light weight and middle weight ranges.

Good for them . The geraei brothers got me into Greco and now Esmaeili on his way to be one of the goats.

More trivia: this is the first time Iran has won the Greco Roman team title for two years in a row. The only other countries who have done this are Russia/USSR, Japan and Azerbaijan

Iran has never won the freestyle team title two years in a row

More team title trivia: worlds returned to 10 weight classes in 2018. Since then, no other country has medaled in 9/10 weight classes in Greco.

Although worlds also had 10 weight classes between 1969-1996, and multiple soviet teams beat this record before the USSR’s dissolution in 1991 (but Russia as a country never achieved 9/10 medals in GR).

Therefore, this Iranian Greco team is arguably the best Greco Roman team in the 10 weight era since the dissolution of the USSR in 1991.

The freestyle draws have just been released

Terrible draws for most Iranians except for Nokhodi and Zare

They're not available on uww site yet

Where I can the brackets?

Ghasempour, Valizadeh and Mohammadnezhad probably got the worst brackets by far. We already knew Amouzad would face Mamedov in the quarters. Same for Khalili with Ochir. 74, 79, 92 and 125 were ok from what I glossed over. Yazdani's draw is decent imo. He avoids Snyder and Sadulaev until the final. He also wrestles Yoshida early and then faces Tazhudinov which is better than the opposite. Ghasempour got completely hard done. Ramazanov first round then the winner of Kadiev and Dake in the semis is just ridiculous. The otherside has Dzhioev and nobody else.

Kamran with a smooth cut is the best and he can do it.

I hope so but with what we saw last year he can't wrestle more than one heavy match at worlds. Ramazanov, Dake and then Kadiev I worry is going to be too much for even him to handle even with a good weight cut.

I just saw the brackets and yes Ghasempoor road to the final is extremely difficult .

Ramazanov in the first round then Dake at the quarter finals and kadiev in semis . This is too much for 1 day

The best year the Soviet Union had was 1975. They won 8 golds, 1 silver,  and a 4th place. The only golds they did not win were at 100kg and 100+kg. They should have won at 100 kg as there rep was Balboshin. Balboshin was a great 6x champion, but he got injured during the tournament. At 100+, Bulgarias Tomov was the king of the heavies in the 70s and early 80s and imo by far the best wrestler to never win an Olympic Gold. Now Russia's silver winning rep did beat him (and the field I suppose since these weren't single elimination) at the olympics. All that to say, they really could have gone 10/10 golds that year.

Matching the soviet union would be so hard. They won 28/29 world team titles during their title runs and had multiple wresters win 5+ world level titles.

Yeah, I said multiple soviet teams beat that record. But none since the dissolution of the USSR

I just watched some Yoshida matches .  He's relentless and his conditioning is great .  I think yazdani should try and counter him and not pushing to Hard in the first period .

Half-Iranian!

I don't think being half Iranian would be a factor . Yoshida wrestled azarpira twice this year . He's a brute with great conditioning and yazdani struggles with high pace.

I just figured it was a worthy topic on the Iran Wrestling News forum.

Other than Taylor, who has gassed Yaz?  In fact, he used to melt good Americans who were considered in good shape. (example: Pico)

If he beat yazdani Iranians would root for Yoshida to beat Thazudinov in the semis so Yazdani go to repechage and a chance for bronze.
