We tend to find an easily identifiable characteristic of another, to dislike. Makes it easy to put them in a box because we're lazy thinkers, on average. 'Racist' is not an accurate representation of the concept its trying to describe. 'Prejudice' or 'Bigoted' are, I think, more accurate.
