Stole the thread title from HVI but not the concept.

For any former wrestlers on here, what is the night before your biggest competition like?

Biggest doesn't have to be NCAAs. Whatever your biggest was.

As a swimmer, it took all my effort to contain my pent up energy. After months of over training and breaking my body down with 7 -10 mile days, I would begin my taper about three weeks out.

The last workout was just a glorified warm up. And without an avenue to burn up the energy, I was buzzing. But we were under strict instructions to just chill. That was tough.

At night, it was time to shave. From chin to toes, except for the median, it was smooth as silk and ready for slip streaming.

Sleep was tough, it took meditation to fall asleep. Concentrate on relaxing each muscle one at a time and blank out the mind.

In the morning it was eggs, and LET'S FREAKIN GO.

Shaved, tapered, wearing my paper suit (we're talking late 1980s!), diving into an 8' deep pool that had that silver filtration system (basically drinking water) that made the water invisible, for warmup the day of competition was unbelievable.  Couldn't see or feel the water. Cleveland State University pool.

Swam there once. That is a nice pool.

Laying in bed tossing and turning, and praying that I'd float 1.5 lb overnight and not have to put on the sweats and jog too much in the morning.
