Has there every been a DI wrestling team where all of the starter were ranked in the top 10 at some point in the season?

2001 Minnesota at the most important point in the season.

Good point! What about all ranked in the top 5?

Iowa ‘92 all 10 were seeded top 7 at NCAA tournament so maybe at some point that year? Seeds from 118 up were 2,1,1,1,5,2,7,6,3,7

So, what should be the criteria when ranking the GOAT? Iowa's 170 pts? 10 AAs? 5 National Champs? Some combination of those? Even with 170 pts that year Iowa I believe they only had 3 champs and 8 AAs.

I think the three point TD muddies the water. PSU has an easier path to bonus points so I think they would need to blow 171.5 out of the water if they are to be declared better. Or do it all with pinfalls.

1997 they respectively finished:

1, 2, 1, 6, 1, 1, 5, r12, 1, r12

was it easier or harder to get to r12 back then?   Obviously the consis were harder to get to cause you had to lose to the person that advanced the farthest…..   for example.    Brett Lawrence at 133 finished 8th   Lost to azevedo who lost to j thompson…. In 1997 he is out of the tourney right?   Tough draw btw   But he was the 10 seed

All wrestlers participated in consols starting in 1996.

Each team had factors in their favor. That definitely helps PSU when it comes to bonus points. Iowa also got to wrestle that 1997 nationals in front of a glorified home crowd. The record is the record.

I was thinking that Iowa had all ten in the top ten during Metcalf's era, but the best I could come up with was his senior year (2010 NCAA seeds):

  • 125: McDonough #3
  • 133: Dennis #2
  • 141: Marion #6 (LeClere also ranked during the season)
  • 149: Metcalf #2
  • 157: Kerr (Aaron Janssen split time here during the season)
  • 165: Morningstar #7
  • 174: Borschel #2
  • 184: Keddy #9
  • 197: Beatty #9
  • 285: Erekson #5

trying to think of some other dominant teams that might have had all 10 highly seeded at NCAAs. Looked at the '86 Iowa team that scored over 150 with 5 champs. unfortunately for sake of this discussion they don't meet the criteria as they didn't even have qualifiers at 118 and Hvy. but 126 through 190 were seeded 3,2,1,2,3,1,3,1. that's just sick.
