High costs = lack of qualified teachers to teach them.

Teachers used to be able to go to school for very little and have a well paying job when they graduated, with very little or any debt. Now, they have massive debt and are paid very little relative to the cost of living in their school district. So, no one wants to be a teacher anymore. Turnover is incredibly high, particularly among younger teachers. Turns out, crippling debt isn’t what they had in mind when they decided to become a teacher.

Huh?  Teachers aren’t paid very much but they’re the reason for the high cost???  Good grief.

Letting the government get involved like Jimmy Inflation Carter did was the kids of death for education.  Like anything else the government touches it ruins it.

Lack of respect for teachers is as big of a reason to why people don’t want to teach as pay is.

I’d say paying teachers a shit wage is a pretty clear lack of respect.

An entry level teaching position at the elementary schools my kids will attend pays less than a third of the median household income in my zip code.

Government has always been involved.  Has the ratio of students in publicly funded schools to private schools increased significantly since 1976?

Sounds like the taxes where you’re at are too high then.   Where I’m at they make the avg median household income.

Not federally. In the state I live in public schools are in decline while charter school is on the rise.  Homeschooling is about even.

The lack of respect is from students, parents and administration.   Not to mention they feel for their safety.

Not in mine. Plenty of private school choices to attend and they’re doing very well.

I’m in one of the most conservative cities in America.

Taxes aren’t high enough.

Kind of weird how all of the states with confederate memorials are deep red, eh?
