You could tell something was different his last time out…there are guys that are enjoying the moment but you could tell he knew then and was soaking it in…

Yeah, I smelled this too, you can see it in the eyes, the intensity of the match, etc.

I had been curious about his long term plans since the end of the 2024 NCAA tournament. I know he dealt with a lot of injuries throughout college and wasn't able to compete after NCAAs very often. I'm not sure exactly what or why, but I remember after the 2024 NCAA season feeling like he didn't sound like someone that was hungry and locked in on winning world/Olympic titles, and that only seems to become more apparent in the following year. He talked about getting married and settling into married life, dipping his toe into some business ventures in Columbia, and then he took a coaching position with Mizzou as well. He was very noncommittal about his plans for competing and kind of suggested, "I'm going to focus on getting healthy and then we'll take it from there." Which isn't the kind of talk to you hear from someone that is truly driven to compete and win world titles.

Hats off to one of my favorite college wrestlers to watch in the last 15 years. I had hoped I was overanalyzing things and that he was going to make a push for 2028, but it seems like he lost the fire for competing, and once that happens, you just can't fake it in this sport. I hope he stays in the sport because his wrestling IQ is unreal. I'd love to see what he can do as a coach.

Dude is a beast. Hard not to root for... his technique was so polished and he was always seemed a little faster/stronger/smarter than his opponents.

I’m pretty sure he made a comment about just wanting to do people’s taxes, and the whole assistant coach thing sort of just happened and isn’t part of his plans.
