U17 Freestyle has a decent hit rate to SR level relevance. not thru the roof but pretty good. we're at a point now (Cadet Worlds was reinstated in 2011) where a lot of the Olympians/World Medalists wrestled at Cadets Worlds.

6 of our World Team this year (regardless of Real/Bo result) wrestled at Cadet Worlds

4 of 6 in 2024 OLY.

Pallone tossed around in the gold medal match by UKR...

called for fleeing while fighting off his back for the 8-0 tech in the first...

YOLO brick...

challenge won... 6-0

pallone picks up a late first step out... 6-1 at the break...

Posted

pallone starting to wear on UKR... picks up a 4 as UKR throws himself to his back on the edge... 6-5

UKR s grip for 4 to go up 10-5 with a minute left...

back to 50/50 over under...

pallone gets taken to the edge and tries to go big instead of giving up the step out and just ends up on his back for the 14-5 tech...

I must say for all this talk that the US does not care too much about greco you guys have managed to send 2 guys to the final which is very impressive. I hope these guys get the support and coaching to get to the next level. It would be great for greco if the US is a contender at it. Does anyone have an idea whether there has been some grass roots investment in greco in the lead up to LA2028 or is this just a one off? I know one of the major greco RTCs got defunded at senior level but I would imagine there are a lot of wrestling gyms in the US that would be teaching greco no?

3 bronze in 2025…

1 gold and 1 bronze in 2024…

1 gold in 2023…

point being, we always have some perform at U17, but, U17 is almost entirely dependent on maturity… just being more physically mature and a tough wrestler can get results at U17…

As far as grassroots, nothing I am aware of specifically…

the truth is that Otto’s clips have got a ton of views and he does have a certain level of wrestling celebrity, so, there maybe a little more Greco exposure the last few years, but, I am not sure if that could possibly be quantified…

NMU just announced they were cutting their program, but, they were not an RTC and had little to funding…

we do have a new club that is actually paying some senior Greco athletes now and they made some waves at the open…

What club is paying senior Greco guys?

Also, Spey said on FRL that the greco program at NMU is likely just being relocated. Any clues where it will go?

Position Wrestling coached by Sam Hazewinkle in Edmond, OK…

I haven’t heard anything about NMU… both meatheads left there several months before the announcement and I haven’t heard anything nor made it a point to talk with the couple left there I still know…

I seriously doubt the program is “relocated” as a whole…

Doane in Nebraska has a Greco program that I bet will surely get some of the athletes…

The OTC only has so many beds allocated for full time resident Greco athletes and I know half of those are occupied currently…

Wouldn’t mind a double gold tournament for Wax…Greco should be the harder of the two for him I think

without being too redundant...

greco is just a more competitive style across the board by it's very nature...

wow...

WAX comes back from 5-0 in the first and being totally controlled positionally to locking up a trap arm on the AZE in the second forced par terre and rolling up AZE for the 13-5 tech...

clearly kid is a scrappy wrestler, but, his base par terre defense was actually not horrible and he immediately went for that trap arm in his offense...

not mad at that kid at all...

good for him...
