draws have dropped for our greco guys...

63, 77, 87, and 130 goes early AM...

63kg- Nicholas Sorrow has a Bye and then will face either Martin Aak of Norway or Taiga Hibarino from Japan... Aak has no results to speak of... Hibarino was a leg grabber and was a U15 Gold at Asians... no feel for any of them at all...

77kg- Leister Bowling IV... our only guy to wrestle for a medal last year at U20s and ended up taking 5th... the only member of the team to win a medal at their croatia trip in June taking silver... best chance for a US medal this year... has a bye off jump and then should be facing the favorite in the bracket Samvel Terteryan of Armenia... gold at U20 Euros this year and silver at U23 Euros... obviously tough match, but, should be pretty smooth after that to the semis if LB4 wins where he would probably face the Bulgarian Valentinov... they wrestled for gold at croatia and it was very competitive... 7-5 final (i think)...

87kg- Aidan Squier... NMU kid... don't really know anything about him... 3rd at Fargo last year... he will face Yoshida from Japan first match... Yoashida is ranked 7th on the planet at seniors... 3rd last year at senior worlds and U20 worlds... wrestled for bronze at 2024 seniors and took 3rd at 2024 U20... i do not expect this to go well for squier at all...

130kg- Trayvn Boger... again, know nothing about this kid... took 4th at Fargo... will have Abdevali from Iran first match... 1st at U20 Asians this year... i can not imagine Boger having anything for Abdevali, but, they will figure it out...

action should kick off 2AM MST...

giddy up

@LJB who on the US Greco squad are you most intrigued at seeing their results; doesn't necessarily have to be the best kid

i am close with all of LB4's family and he and Otto are super tight, so, very interested in him... i think he is our best chance at a medal...

Amryn Nutter another one whose entire family is tight with the boys... there are 3 Nutter bros and they all have the Black family seal of approval...

Khosravy bros are also good guys... have not spent much time around them, but, did meet their dad several years ago in vegas... that dude is bout it bout it and a very excitable Iranian... the boys like both of the brothers... Arvin has an outside chance to make waves...

those are really the only ones i have any connection to at all... i am aging out of U20s...

the rest i am just going to remain the eternal optimist while watching...

sitting here bouncing around while trying to prepare myself for another week of no sleep and realizing this is the last U20 world championship in the last decade that i will personally know someone competing for a few years...

there is still one kid i know who is young and has the chutzpah to actually make a team...

U20 worlds is an absolutely great tourney...

i encourage all the "fans" to actually pay attention...

First USA relevant match up now on Mat A - Norway vs Japan; winner gets Sorrow

10 - 6 Japan at the break.  Japan looks to be the more aggressive wrestler.  Norway kid a good 6 inches taller

Much tamer second period; Japan wins 11-6 and moves on to face Sorrow

Finishes 8 - 0; Egypt conceded 2 step outs in a row and looked like he wasn't that interested in wrestling more

Egypt coach yolo brick though

87kg...

Squier and Yoshida...

Yoshida controlling center early... slick drag to the body but can not get behind... immediately to am arm spin attempt... then calmly for the step out 1-0 JPN first minute...

JPN taking ground again and then a nice cross arm shuck for 2... has him in the air but can not convert... 3-0

Squier put down for passivity... 4-0 JPN

JPN has the lift but can not convert... appears to have the turn on the edge but white paddled...

JPN digging hard with the under at the edge... squier shucks him by for the TD... 4-2...

JPN still pushing... snap go behind for 2... 6-2 late first...

JPN pretty cool little off balance for 2 to go up 8-2 at the break...

JON comes out and just overwhelms squier early second with snaps, front head, to the body all transitions... 10-2 early second tech...

there is a reason that kid is ranked 7th on the planet at seniors...
