This type of funk is ruining folk style. I suggest adding a rule that if you dive and grab, you have five seconds or give up one point.

I'd like to see a rule eliminating shoe grabs. You grab your opponent's shoe, ref starts a 3 count. After 3, it's stalling. Does not apply when pinning (bow & arrow, spladle, etc.).

It won't stop all the spaghetti wrestling but at least it discourages lazy funk where guys grab a shoe and hope for a reset.

Agreed. It's not hard to tell in a match who is trying to improve from that tactic and who isn't. One way would be to treat it like riding below the waist. The ref starts a count, and the wrestler than initiated the "dive" has 5 seconds to score or let go. Failure to score or let go and the offending wrestler gets hit with stalling. The net result would be less stallmates, ahem, stalemates and more action. Also need to speed up the reviews or get rid of them.

It is garbage wrestling and I’ve hated it since its appearance.

But what do we do about it? I don’t think you can realistically outlaw it, it’s here and here to stay unfortunately.

I like severe, Draconian rules. They can drive behavior how you want and if they don’t, atleast they punish the guilty party.

So. You know who the aggressor is, who initiated the action, which is what you want. Punish the other guy - first time is a verbal warning and stalemate, second time and every other time is a point for the aggressor. I don’t like counts, guys just let go and grab again to start the count again, you see it all the time on top.

I’d be fine with neutral danger changes too…shorter count, cumulative count, something.

It wouldn’t be a problem if it hadn’t become a strategy. It’s a lot of the same guys, who never attack but boy can they tie up a shot and hang on for a stalemate. It’s the on the mat version of grabbing and interlocking the fingers, which is another problem tactic of the offensively and/or conditioning challenged wrestlers we seem to have everywhere and across certain programs.

This is clearly a preference thing. I think the dive creates awesome scrambles that end up with scoring many times. Sprawling ends up in way more stalemates than the dive.
