  1. Deakin was just not f-ing around there...

    Vito

Glad to see him back to form and back in the finals. I especially appreciated him walking to the center of the mat and pointing at the mat in an effort to get Crookham to stop backing up and playing the edge. Good stuff.
  3. John Lange, 7 seed for Penn State in 1998. Lost in the first round to David Wells of Cal Poly 15-5. Wins 7 (!) straight on the back-side to take 3rd. In the consolation semi-finals he pinned David Wells.
  4. You guys are arm chairing it - in the moment, he felt he could ride and chose top. Good decisions can have bad outcomes.

Fix has been living too close to the edge and I think Ragusin takes him out.
  6. Why is Mendez so smug? He just gets more unlikeable the more he opens his mouth. He has a big win over Hardy to make the semi's and all he can say is that he hasn't hit a spladle since his first year wrestling. Really?! Who learns a spladle the first year they wrestle? I'm calling BS and rooting for Echemendia.
  7. No consistency with the backing out stall call. This rule needs to go.
  8. Depends on which Beau shows up - the one that opened up and beat Woods soundly in the Iowa dual, or the more tentative (and typical) one that lost at the Big 10 tournament. I think he makes the finals, but I don't think he'll win it all. The guy just needs to open up, but mostly refuses to.
  9. Makes you think that Trev is just one of those football guys who could never understand how a 140-ish pound wrestler could put a Nebraska linebacker on the ground and keep him there.
  10. Hardy is a tough out for anyone - the guy is really unorthodox and a great scrambler. Smart money says Mendez, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Hardy take this one.

Perhaps, but Yar-Bro is particularly good at getting in on the legs owing to his length.

133 is the only weight where the top 8 seeds all made the quarters. However, I think Vito (and possibly Bailey) break the streak.
  13. Sparks-isms = says dumb shit
  14. Alberts is/was a douche for that UNO move. Glad he's now at a non-wrestling school because more sports will be on the chopping block in the future.
  15. I really feel sorry for the parenting this kid received.
  16. Choke or not, Nagao tends to do a lot of parallel riding which is awfully hard (but not impossible) to turn from. I don't particularly care for parallel riding, but it seems to work reasonably well for him.
  17. 141: (8) Lemley over (1) Mendez in the quarter finals
  18. #1 seeds take 1st about 52% of the time but AA almost 97% of the time (across weights and years going back to 1999). 9+ seeds DNP almost 94% of the time.
  19. Guys are less offensive against Lewan because they respect his defense. If your offense isn't executed perfectly, he will often make you pay. I can appreciate good defense, but Lewan takes a lot of heat for the simple reasons that: 1) he is a defensive wrestler, and 2) many guys won't try to be offensive against him respecting his defensive skills. It works for him, but it's makes for boring matches, too many of which go to OT.
  20. The only thing more boring to watch than Lewan is listening to him being interviewed. I'd have indulged in self-mutilation to make it stop.
