  1. Here is an interesting article on the matter that popped up this am. Not saying it is the definitive word on the matter but struck me as a calm, clear discussion of the matter at hand. https://quillette.com/2024/08/03/xy-athletes-in-womens-olympic-boxing-paris-2024-controversy-explained-khelif-yu-ting/
  2. But David Taylor lost many and won none and yet many of you call him a GOAT and harsh on Dake who actually moved up to wrestle But David Taylor never won one yet you guys refer to him as a GOAT and rag on Dake…who, by the way moved up a weight class to wrestle the reigning Hodge Trophy winner at 165 and beat him…Taylor can never be the GOAT
  3. And Tiger Woods thought he would be a great Navy Seal…
  4. No, because she doesn’t want the harpies harrassing her family
  5. didn’t they both test as having xy chromosones…ie males? either you are abot or a troll…another institution ruined…the Olympics were trashed long ago…why on a wrestling forum? Because we have 6 weights to wrestle when there should be 10…you the saviors of science should understand a bell curve and see immediately that 6 weights do not represent the male species while 6 might be appropriate for women…you should also recognize that dudes punching women in the face is massively uncool
  6. OK…so I tried my best…I went to the NBC link above and this is what I have for coverage of mens freestyle at the Olympics…as usual with wrestling, nothing is straightforward, explained or logical but here goes: Olympic wrestling 57k 8/8 5am ET Eliminations (Elim) 11 am Elim 8/9 5 pm Finals 65k 8/10 5 am Elim 8:30 am Elim 8/10 10 am Finals 74k 8/9 5 am Elim 8:30 am Elim 8/10 12:15 Finals 86 8/8 5 am Elim 8/9 12:15 pm Finals 97k 8/10 5 am Elim 8:30 am Elim 8/11 10 am Finals 125k 8/9 5 am Elim 8:30 am Elim 8/10 4 pm Finals Notes -There is no 86k second round of Eliminations listed -57k Finals for men and women listed for 5 pm on 8/9 but women 57k also listed for 12:15…my guess is that mens will be wrestled then as well but who knows? -On 8/11 at 5 am it says “Mat B: Repechages and Finals” and at 10 am it says M 65, 97 so my guess is that 5 am is live and 10 am is a rerun -The nonsense continues…by and for Sherlock Holmes would retire trying to solve this riddle but I tried my best
  7. Here is a great match from midway through Cael’s college career at the 2000 US Open. His opponent is Les Gutches, a 3x AA, 2x NC, World Champion, Olympian still in his prime at 27. He is in the HOF but young Cael gives hin all he can handle. It is a fun watch.
  8. That wasn’t a “ramble” imo! I thought it was very well reasoned and factual. thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
  9. He is tough but wrestles kind of wild in folk…lots of scrambles that would be points against in free…would really have to develop a different approach here…old dogs new tricks skepticism but will be interested as well
  10. if i recall correctly he was also one of the great lacrosse players of his era
  11. well played..didn’t know where you were headed and wham! got a good chuckle out of that one.
  12. my argument all along has been that because there are so few weights, they should be moved to spots between the existing non oly year weights…it gives you deeper weight classes when everyone is forced to go up or down
  13. And I would think DT has had him in the room at M2 and seen him work with the kids who go there. Not just pulling straws…he must like his style. And he has been the most consistent lightweight in the country for the last bunch of years.
  14. Great observation…he saw PA kids outperforming all over the country yet their flagship university wasn’t getting them…makes a lot of sense and speaks to Cael’s acumen…I have always liked how he gets the most out of his kids…John Smith in recent years, not so much.
  15. Are you from there? Just curious as you are really fired up.
  16. I hear Gary Steen is hanging them up
  17. Maybe he is doing just that…I feel really bad for him but these are very strange times…I don’t think Israel is trying to make a statement by holding an American athlete out of a Last Chance qualifier…were I to guess, it is part of a broader security program designed to protect both the athletes and the detail assigned to guard them…I like your moxie though
  18. he beat Montell Marion of iowa for his first title…he rode the Tank like a rented mule for his second.
  19. exactly…especially when the up and comer has wrestled with the vet time and again…It will be interesting to see how he makes out against the rest at the olys…familiarity wIth his opponent played in how much in this one? aaron is definitely tough but has he wrestled the other contenders before? tape only helps so much.
  20. I don’t have any issue with returning medalists getting deference. I do have an issue with the lack of logic in creating a structure where all the other competitors are not wrestling their quarters in the same session. You do see how that is a disadvantage to the four guys involved relative to their peers who were also going through challenge tourney from the beginning no?
  21. Did the 4 seed in the top of the bracket win one?
  22. Sorry unbelievably UNFAIR to….
  23. I asked this on the Session 1 thread but why are Mendez wrestling their quarterfinal match tonight rather than in the previous session when all the others were. Are there any other weight classes here that is happening? Seems unbelievably to whoever wins that match.
  24. This may have been discussed earlier but I am being lazy. Why was the Mendez/Yianni quarter not wrestled when all the other quarters were. Why will they wrestle tonight and then take on Zain in the same session when no other semi finalists have that burden? Seems patently unfair.
  25. When has dake ever said otherwise? It is a huge advantage to miss the challenge and sit in the finals, there is no denying it. as far as anyone knows dake has a huge amount of respect for jb and was merely pointing out the inequity of the system. but that doesnt mean he doesnt respect him. he has trained many years to defeat the GOAT and he did so. Imagine how JB will feel if he cant get past the challenge tournament to even face him. in my mind that is the more likely scenario.
