  1. What should AJ Ferrari's next move be?
  2. Nobody cared about the Soldier Salute until an athlete appeared to give the crowd the soldier salute. Now the tournament is all the rage on social media. So as far as I can tell, juvenile antics are effective at drawing attention to the sport. However, it would not be a good look to have a sport that is full of misfits and heels. It would be a bad look. All that being so, it seems to me that the most effective way to harness the power of juvenile antics would be for a single team to specialize in collecting misfits and heels. That way, we'd have an engine for social media engagement; we'd have something interesting to watch; and we'd have a single program to halfheartedly condemn as being ruinous to the sport. So the next natural question is, which team would be the best villainous team? For me, the answer is obviously Iowa -- for a few reasons. First, the Brands brothers are hardly meek individuals. Second, the Brands brothers have some experience with managing apparently hotheaded athletes. Third, Iowa is Trump country, which means it is already full of people who worship a vulgarian. A team of misfits and heels should suit the state well. What do you think?
  3. The Ferraris are good for fan interest. I say let them cook. If Iowa doesn’t want them maybe they can go to Rutgers or something.
  4. This should be Iowa’s version jumpman logo.
  5. I have no idea what your question means, but yes, probably.
  6. I’d like to see Ferrari and Brooks share the following stats with us fans: denomination; weekly prayers; weekly devotions; weekly religious services or Bible studies; and weekly sins (along with the severity of those sins). That data would help us discuss the possibility that one is more divinely favored than the other.
  7. “speach”
  8. How do you think their faiths will figure into their matches?
  9. A clip from Rogan’s interview with Nickal has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. Rogan and Nickal were both bashing Biden, and in the course of doing so, Rogan claimed that Biden said there were airports during the Revolutionary War. Nickal laughed and said he also saw that Biden said that. Rogan then said that Biden’s purported statement was evidence that Biden wouldn’t be allowed to perform any job aside from the job of president. Nickal seemed to agree, and said that a person who made Biden’s purported statement wouldn’t be cleared to fight, and would need weeks of professional help. Moments later, someone on Rogan’s team clarified that Biden was actually paraphrasing Trump — who previously said that there were airports during the Revolutionary War. Once they realized Trump was the source of the airport comment, they didn’t think it was a big deal after all.
  10. I don't know how anyone can top Uetake. He was undefeated, and he was the Olympic champ following his true sophomore season.
  11. I sometimes wonder about senior-level wrestlers who have virtually no shot at making a world or Olympic team -- or even only a slim shot. I agree that people should make their decisions about their lives, but are these athletes aware of the costs? For instance, if a young man told me that he wanted to spend four years surfing in Central America because it's what he loves to do, I think it would be reasonable to wonder if he was aware of the true cost of doing so. When it comes to wrestling, if someone pursues senior-level wrestling for four years after college, they are missing four important years for career opportunities; they are missing four precious years where they will not face age discrimination; and they are missing four years of retirement savings (including decades of interest in retirement accounts). Is it really worth it? I know some of you will say that some of these athletes will pursue coaching. Okay. But how many coaching jobs hinge on several years of unfruitful senior-level wrestling?
  12. Hopefully Fix and Arujau graduated from college years ago and are finishing up master’s degrees.
  13. Alright, so here's the updated top-ten most-Instagram-popular NCAA wrestlers: Carter Starocci- 228k Beau Bartlett- 167k Cayden Henschel (D2)- 152k David Carr- 118k Chase Saldate- 114k Daton Fix- 93.8k Anthony Echemendia- 47.8k Kyle Parco- 41.8k Aaron Brooks- 41.1k Real Woods- 38.3k
  14. I looked up random names of active NCAA wrestlers, and here are the top ten, as far as I found. Help me out and see if I missed an Instagram celebrity! Starocci- 228k Bartlett- 167k Carr- 118k Fix- 93.7k Echemendia- 47.7k Parco- 41.6k Brooks- 41k Woods- 38.1k Vito- 36.7k Ramos- 28.9k
  15. I like three point takedowns because it encourages offense. I think it makes the matches more fun to watch. I’d love to see step outs added to the mix. I think it would encourage even more offense. One last thing I’d like to see is two periods, with both periods beginning in neutral. That way if you plan to score with riding time, you have to do something offensively first.
  16. Burroughs likes three point takedowns because they reward the offensive wrestler and deemphasize the significance of escapes. What do you think?
  17. There’s a story about AC Milan that makes me wonder about PSU wrestling. When 17 year old Alexandre Pato moved to AC Milan in 2007, the Brazilian Ronaldo broke down the team dynamics for him. As Pato later recalled, “When I arrived in Milan, I met many really great players. In the dressing room, I was sat between [Paolo] Maldini and Ronaldo, who asked me if I wanted to be part of his clan, showing me a copy of Playboy, or if wanted to be part of Kaka's clan, who had a few church things in the dressing room."
  18. ESPN and the UFC going in on college wrestling is a huge opportunity. I hope that the NCAA realizes this and is open to reforms that will make the sport better for fans. The three-point takedown is a great experiment. Hopefully kids will compete in big televised matches this year rather than duck.
  19. Yes.
  20. I cannot see myself sending money to Flo anytime soon, whereas I am fairly close to signing up for UFC Fight Pass (purely for the wrestling).
  21. Based on vibes. But here are some of the accolades I had in mind: Starocci- 3x champ, two undefeated seasons Brooks- 3x champ, U23 world champ, one undefeated season Vito- 1x champ, world champ (only the 4th athlete to win world/Olympic gold before senior year) KOT- 2x champ, U23 world champ, one undefeated season Carr- 1x champ, U20 world champ, 2-1 vs. KOT, one undefeated season
  22. Starocci Brooks Vito KOT Carr
  23. Mesenbrink won a U20 world gold at 163. So he might be okay at 165.
  24. As many of you are aware, Jim Jordan -- former Wisconsin wrestler and former Ohio State assistant coach -- is reportedly a leading contender to be the next Speaker of the House. If Jordan becomes the next Speaker, he would the first former wrestling coach to be the Speaker since Dennis Hastert, who handed the gavel over to Nancy Pelosi in January 2007. It would truly be historic for two former wrestling coaches to reach such levels of power within just a 17 year span. Just a reminder, this is a wrestling forum. There should not be any political discussion here. Thank you.
