Stalling -- Backing out vs Pushing out -- Downey v Taylor
XiXiTiger replied to BAC's topic in College Wrestling
When the new out of bounds stalling rules first came out (2014-2015), pushing someone off the mat was also supposed to be considered stalling. Here's the press release from those rule changes. IMO, they didn't want people to win matches via push outs. They called it that way occasionally the first couple years, but rarely call stalling on the pusher now. Thus, it's even more of a strategy to simply shove the other guy OB and get a stall call. From the article linked above, the possible calls when wrestlers go OB are: "1. Stalling on one or both wrestlers for leaving the wrestling area. 2. Stalling for pushing or pulling the opponent out of bounds. 3. Wrestling action is taking place. (It should be noted that a tie-up, including an under hook with no attempt to initiate an offensive move, is not considered an offensive or defensive attack)." -

Big 12 Projected Seeds/Interactive Bracket
XiXiTiger replied to bracketbuster's topic in College Wrestling
Askren did it in 2006. Beat Kish at 184 at national duals and Herbert at 174 at NCAAs. -
Smith said this week that he picked Hawks over Whiting because he has multiple wins this year over guys in top 20, including two guys in the top 10 (Salazar and Feldman). Mentioned that Whiting was disappointed, but working in the room toward next year.

It's actually a Mizzou Athletics podcast but they call the wrestling one the TigerStyle Report. Sounds like there may be some other wrestlers missing this weekend too.
-
On the Tigerstyle podcast, Brian Smith said Moore is back on the mat but will not be wrestling this weekend. He will be ready for BigXIIs.
-
Eierman made a final at Iowa because the two guys that placed ahead of him his last NCAAs at Mizzou (Yianni and McKenna) sat out or graduated. He also lost to Lee who he majored (12-4) while at Mizzou.
-
Mizzou insider saying Minnow has it backwards. Moore was at his girlfriends house and her ex-boyfriend showed up.

Pretty sure that was 141 lb wrestler Seltzer who is kinda bad on bottom even down a weight.

Would adding a Dual Championship actually change anything?
XiXiTiger replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Penn State would run away with it this year. But the last time teams competed in a decent version of the National Duals (2015), Mizzou beat Iowa in the finals. Ohio State won NCAAs, but lost to Lehigh in the quarterfinals of the dual tourney. -
He redshirted in 2019-2020, though there was no NCAAs anyway.
-
Rocky was going for the major and looked like he ran out of gas trying to finish a shot. Just bellied out and conceded the takedown.
-
Didn't Brooks duck Beard this weekend? I see he's still #1.
-
Was thinking the same thing about Orine. He didn’t have to beat any top 10 guys to win CKLV, but looked good beating Frost in the finals. Could definitely see him scoring points at NCAAs. Seltzer may not even qualify for NCAAs at this rate.
-
Looked like Steed dislocated or hyperextended his elbow. Was beating Zerban at the time and looked really good. He seems to have bad luck with injuries. Defaulted out of at least three tournaments since he’s been at Mizzou.

Can you predict your favorite team's lineup for next season?
XiXiTiger replied to flyingcement's topic in College Wrestling
This doesn’t sound good. He split with Hawks this year and had a decent redshirt year. Is he behind in wrestling or have off the mat issues? -

Hawks seems like the front runner, but he split close matches with Whiting this year. Whiting was 23-3 with 2 losses at Midlands and 1 to Hawks. He also won 3 or 4 matches against ncaa qualifiers. It will be a tough battle. No word yet but lots of hope. -
O’toole was a true freshman and has stated that he planned to redshirt in 2021, but decided to wrestle because of the ‘free year’. Starocci is a year older, redshirted in 2020 and got 19 matches of experience before the free year in 2021. Good chance they’d both be three timers if they were the same age.

Rocky Elam got a locked hands call (took a 5+ min review to see) and then picked down against Sloan in the semis. Only position Sloan had a chance to beat him. Hurts more because Elam dominated Bonacorsi 6-1 at NCAAs last year.

If you are 23 or older when AA or win NCAAs
XiXiTiger replied to Dark Energy's topic in College Wrestling
Elam is #1 at 197 and is the same age as O’Toole. -
Smith said in his post-UNI interview that he looked forward to getting everyone back next week. Guess we’ll see.
