  1. I agree with @steamboat_charlie that it should be more fluid.

    Offer catch weight matches.

If #1 and #2 are willing, make that match a freestyle match, especially if they are in the same conference.  Might get more guys to say yes.

Don't force matchups either.  If no one in the top 5 wants to go, just don't have that match.

Allow guys without eligibility to compete, if they are willing. It is an exhibition anyway.   Let's see the incoming #1 v. the defending champ who graduated.  Again, could be freestyle if needed.

No to Downey but if Starocci wants to wrestle the #1 HWT  (assuming it wasn't his teammate, just using an example), why not.

It's also hard to imagine that offer coming from Penn State.

Exactly, PSU always goes slightly lower than the rumors.   So $399K is the probably the PSU offer with a "I was never offered $400K" denial coming.   He is only coming back because he loves Jesus and wrestling and pissing on graves and spitting on people, but not for the money or to win 5 titles....

  3. The replays of the morning sessions are on the Peacock app.   If you want to see 57 and 65 or the 1st match of other best of 3s they are on the Mat 2 Saturday one.  The quad box one is there two but the description is generic (doesn't say quad box).

  4. I feel pretty good about both, especially since there is a true 3rd place so the draw isn't as important. I assume true 3rd in internationally just means repechage with the two 3rd place guys wrestling?

If I had to rank, I am little more confident in Spencer but that is because we seem to be snake bit at 65kg and I don't know how big Zain is.  All of the other 70kg guys struggled but he seemed okay when he had to go the 2nd morning off the scale.  So the possibility of a bad cut and USA luck at 65 has me less confident than 57kg but I still think he gets it done.

I hear this, but also MM was doing nothing compared to the stuff JB has handled over the course of his career.  Russians, Iranians, Dake, et al have thrown WAY worse at him and he has handled it way better.  But then, as we saw, he had no offense the next round, and I think that internal vulnerability got the best of him.

This is a reach.  Tsargush would hold/pull the singlet and use a few dirty tricks but I can't think of anything the other Russian have done.  Sadly, JB is treated better in Iran than State College.   I don't recall Dake crossing any lines (maybe verbally jabbing?).

And lets be real, he didn't lose control, he knew he was up 7-0 and could take the penalty point so he retaliated against someone crossing the line.    If it would of been a close match, he probably doesn't react the same way.

  6. Yes, winning cures all ills, but lets be real.  Are PSU fans the worst??

Booing JB before MM even scores a point? Yes, MM wrestles hard but when the whistle blows and you are out of bounds, it is time to stop.  Booing him because he pulls up his socks?? Okay, I know you guys are new to the sport but wait until you learn about the cold spray the Russians use as a stall technique, it might blow your mind.  Then after Nolf wins to talk smack??   Just no class.

Iowa fans get a bad rap but they gave Gable, an opposing wrestler a standing O.  PSU booed a PA legend in Spencer.  No question, Cinnabon is terrible troll but maybe just an average PSU fan?

Obviously, Starocci smack talk that he couldn't back up and Nickels sensitivity have enabled them.

I know there are a lot of PSU fans on here who will no doubt cry about this post, but some fan base is the worst. Has to be PSU, right?

  7. I don't think anyone is complaining that the non Olympic weights get into the semis.   It's the unbalanced bracket that disadvantages the 2 and 3 seeds when we should be trying to find our best rep.   Then to make them have an extra match before wrestling the semi match while the 4 seed only has one match doesn't make sense.

The world medalist should be the 1 seed with a bye to the semis and get the 4/5 winner in that semi.  We can give a guy an advantage without creating a disadvantage for guys who have also earned the right to compete for the Olympic Spot.

  8. I know some have complained about the broadcast on Peacock, but I thought the quad box was great aside from the issues with mat 3 for a bit, especially during the JB/Facundo match.

But I thought Shane deserved his own thread.  He just went 5 hours broadcasting by himself and stayed on top of all of the action.  Very impressive!

    Thank you Shane.

That makes those unbalanced brackets even worse. I have no problem with the bye to the semis but it would tough even with plenty of rest. Whoever wins the Yianni / Mendez match is going to have a tough time with a fully rested Retherford 8 hours off the scale.

    THIS!     Makes no sense
