Because most wrestlers and fans prefer folkstyle. ??? For the record I liked freestyle as a competitor. I actually did slightly better state medal wise in freestyle. I just think fans and wrestlers like it less. if freestyle was demonstrably better people would do it more. What facts were posted above. 90% of ihsa hs wrestlers don’t do freestyle. That’s a fairly high number. I love freestyle. Keep it. Just keep it in the summer. Stop trying to change the rules in the fall to be more “freestyle”. Imagine if an army of Greco people tried to turn folkstyle into Greco. I bet you would hate it. No one argues that Greco is the coolest form of wrestling. Your freestyle is the Greco to my folkstyle argument. Leave folkstyle alone. It’s superior.

2,400 (according to Google) men wrestle in college. There are what. 18 spots on freestyle world teams? 356,000 wrestle in high school by the way. That’s 0.6% of high school athletes of those figures are right. 0.005% are world level teams. Shyte Multiply that by 10 for the us open and the other competitors. 0.005% wrestle after college. let’s make our sport less popular. More boring. For what. 18 spots? For 0.005% of wrestlers. #winning

Tom todurky or something says wrestling is circling the drain or the bowl or whatever. with that said. If summer freestyle is such a superior sport why not do other stuff during folkstyle season and do freestyle in the summer. my guess is. Maybe they like folkstyle better. And “other stuff” is more fun than freestyle. I have kids to so I get it.

It’s in that goat cstall thread. Not looking it up to lazy. The idea was that people said his (cstall) finalists compared to other 4 timers weren’t “super stacked”. I’m sure they used another term. the jist was that super freshmen Rocco Welch would get to the finals and win xyz # of titles thus we can’t say he had weak competition on his way to being the unanimous goat. Paraphrasing of course.

So I guess two answers. if ~10% of the ihsa males wrestled freestyle in the summer. Please help me understand why turning folkstyle into freestyle in high school helps the sport. Clearly even the participants don’t like it well enough to do it in the summer. .to your second question 0. That’s part of my point. No one teaches other marital arts. Maybe it’s a small small single digit %. That’s my point. Those that say wrestling will die without freestyle …. How tf are those sports still sports when approx 0 grammar schools and 0 high schools and nearly 0 colleges teach or have teams. Edit: I wrestled freestyle in the summer. I actually liked it. I just think the general fan and most of the wrestling community does not.

I seem to remember cstall fans hyping up the Rocco Welch final as an up and coming awesome sauce dude. Weird taking the opposite argument all of a sudden.
