Honest Opinions for 2023-2024 - Your Team Edition
Mhlm replied to nhs67's topic in College Wrestling
I have a heard a rumor or two where that could be a possibility. I also look forward to seeing what Seltzer does this year. My biggest concern with Edmond is him making weight at 141. He has definitely filled out quite a bit, hopefully him and Steed are putting in the time this summer to make 141 and 157 an easier transition come season time. As for 184, I see MizzouFan is big on Whittling - but I prefer Hawks or Harman over Whiting myself. And I have heard a few rumors there as well, but we'll see how that plays out. -
I had to go look up Tigerboard. I had no idea it even existed. I really enjoyed the old Missouri Wrestling board as well. I check in here and the PowerMizzou board the most.

Can you predict your favorite team's lineup for next season?
Mhlm replied to flyingcement's topic in College Wrestling
I don’t take too much stock in the splitting of the matches. I was at both tournaments and they’re teammates. If you watched the matches, the first one was definitely more action. The second one only one wrestler moved forward, the refs refused to call anything - again, teammates so not really surprising, one duck under won it after an entire match of backing up. I also don’t look at the records between the three much. They had very different competition for the majority of them. I think whiting is still figuring out college. Not having parents right there, managing weight, and a few other things. I’m sure he’ll get it worked out, after all, with battling for spots on the team, that can only make the team stronger. Harman has shown he’s a great teammate. Moves to weights where needed, works hard, is very dependable. Hawks had an injury senior year that ended up causing some other injuries. He put a lot of time in this season to really push through that and still competed for the spot. I think he’s made a big jump since January- again, I don’t necessarily go by the record when he had competition like Keckeisen, Coleman and Wittlake, and seemed to hold his own just fine. But again, who knows what will happen. -

Front what I heard at NCAAs and since, I would be surprised if it was whiting. I think Hawks or Harman. But who knows. I also think Harman would have more success at 174, but that could be a year before the opportunity presents. -
Yes 0 offense. How in the world did he get the first takedown? because as a #26 ranked he was expected - by all, to destroy the #11 ranked he previously lost to. The other wrestlers who are satisfied with decisions instead of bonus points have no blame in this team loss.

Some of this is just bad reffing. They are actually counting to 5 - loudly, we can hear them, and then they just stop counting and still don’t give a stall call. Some stalemates are called in less than 3 seconds, some are going on and on - until time runs out. Horrible.
-
I could’ve have swore he said just 10. Most of the others would be going to another tourney this weekend. I thought it was on a podcast - maybe the one with mauller? I had it playing in the background, so I could have misheard.
-
Last I heard, he was taking all 10 starters - no extras. And it looked like that from the bus photos.
-
Yes, I was aware both Harman and Whiting were in the same bracket - and they DFF in the finals. I only commented about Harman wrestling today because you questioned if it was injury related - since he was wrestling today, it would seem as if injury was not the reason.
-
Harman is wrestling at the Denker open today.
-
Yes. I think it was a total of 4 concussions and a knee injury.
-
Two of the three have concussions from last weekend at the scuffle.
-
At the WV dual he was wrapped and on crutches. I believe he should be back in a couple of weeks.
-
I'm guessing you mean Hawks - yeah, we've known the family a long time and I think there is a few things there. I know he has a few surgeries since he senior year. I really thought once he focused solely on wrestling he would make some huge leaps, and those times off the mat have not helped. I am not sure they "know" him well enough to coach the best out of him. He's always been a pretty stoic kid who was hard to read, but would really dig deep for those he believed had his back. The grass isn't always green elsewhere, but I do know there's been a few coaches asking about him. I'd hate to see him go, especially since he is a Missouri kid.

Hawks was definitely undersized - he did weigh in at 184. They bumped him up because 1 - it gave him a match, 2 - Rocky still is not 100%. Personally, I think Smith has a preference for WI (Askren) guys and he will take Whiting. Hawks should probably be looking at the portal if he wants to be a starter.
-
I've been wondering what happened to him and must have missed any news. What's the deal? He's just decided he doesn't want to compete anymore? I think that pretty much is it. I talked to him at the invite. He’s pretty busy with school and there is a bit of a log jam at 184 there. While that is a good problem to have on the coaching side, not so great on the athlete side.
-
Kent is often with the team. He traveled to KC for their tournament, he practices several times a week in the room. He’s part of the team, he’ll always be part of the team, just not competing.
-
We will be heading there. I am hoping to see Surtin on the mats - I heard he knee was really bothering him. And I would like to see if there are any change ups at 184.
-
I guess I should've clarified - the info I provided was where they were planning on sending each one this week.
-
Yes, wrestlestat is weird. We're friends of the family - the Hawks', so a bit of the information I provided is from them. While more was said, 1 - not my place to share, 2 - sometimes coaches say one thing and then things end up completely different.
-
Does Hawks have a redshirt? I thought he used that last year - he wrestled unattached and early in the season that’s what we were told was the plan. And if so, then they could wrestle both of them depending on how they think they would match up. I spoke to someone yesterday that mentioned they were sending Harman to ASU and Hawks to the Lindenwood Open. Hawks hasn’t wrestled much outside of teammates since the Mo Valley Open last year, so this was a way to get him several matches before getting him some time in the lineup and seeing where that plays out. The backlog at 184 is a good problem to have.

The Missouri Open (Tiger Style Invite)

He was not feeling well - at least that’s what we were told while we were there. He didn’t not seem injured. But was moving a little slow. -

From what I have understood, along with the wrestler list, Rocky isn’t wrestling this weekend. -
Who are the couple of starters you’re thing of? Rocky was the only one missing. And he said he would be back for asu - possibly this weekend.
-
Surtin was there - but in the stands with friends. Edmond had something done back in April. Which was timed with him redshirting this year. Hawks had a clean up on his knee in September, but has been back wrestling live for a few weeks now.
