Nebraska Wins The Title That Really Matters
Xmas32 replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
I saw their gambling line was 2.5 AAs. I really thought they would've snagged one more between Downey/Realbuto/Voelker. -
A little bit. Lovett and Shapiro were pretty physical with each other during the match and I think Lovett popped Shapiro in the chops a couple times (Shapiro was bleeding from his mouth at the end). It looks like the two exchanged a couple of words and things were a bit chippy but I didn't see anything egregious by either guy. Just a really physical match.

Matcast commentary with Hidlay/Sparks was great. Hidlay was well prepared and sounds like a natural. Really enjoyed he and Sparks paired up. I couldn't handle the ESPN feed w/ TJ, Rock Harrison and the other guy.

The Yak (Barstool) had a fun interview with Brock Hardy after NCAAs last year where they talked about him getting spladled. Interview starts around the 1 hour 42 minute mark. From the weird files, Kerkvilet being a complete alien and telling Quint that winning is meaningless was pretty funny.

On another website--BetOnline PSU was favored by 55.5(!!) and the line has since dropped to 52.5 I've been looking at UNI/Wisky for a while and I think 28.5 seems about right. From a betting perspective the dual pretty much comes down to 125/133. If Wisky can win both matchups it's going to be really tough for UNI to cover without a couple falls. If UNI wins at 133, UNI covers.

Wow Iowa sits Kennedy for son and Nephew Nelson Brands

Yep, agreed.
-
I haven't heard if Nebraska plans to sit anyone. They have some 'ORs' listed on the preview but the only starter I could possibly see sitting is maybe Pinto at 174 in case they wanted to get a look at DeLeon or super recruit Araujo. The dual should be pretty competitive outside of 141/149/157 where Nebraska should roll. If you made me bet it I'd put a pizza bet on Nebraska as I think they are a little bit better in the coinflip matches outside of 197/285 and even then McDanel has already beaten Sollars.

Penn State opens at -30.5 over Illinois, down to 29.5 already. Seems like a lot if Penn State is missing a couple guys. Would expect no Kerk, Kasak and probably no Davis against Byrd right?
-
Yep, that looks like BetOnline. 25.5 is a ton.
-
Cannon was the only guy listed on the probables so I'm guessing it's him: https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/news/2025/2/12/wrestling-no-8-buckeyes-close-out-dual-season-vs-no-1-penn-state-friday-at-covelli I'm probably leaning towards taking the 22.5 at +100 and banking on Davis and Kasak sitting.

@Dogbone something super sick was on Thursday or Friday night DK put out a line for Minny/Purdue where Minnesota was -2.5. The line was completely off and even though my instincts were to bet it right then and there (I have to drive to a gambling legal state) I wasn't feeling great and decided to go to bed and bet it the next day if it was still available. Sure enough, DK pulled it that night lol and reposted it on Saturday with Minny -27.5 or so which was clearly far more accurate. Man, I was really annoyed with myself for not betting that.
-
Estrada with some nice chirping after the whistle. Should've kept that energy during the match and taken more than one shot. Enjoy that hot L.
-
Man, Iowa up to -10, I wonder if people seeing the 'OR' in Nebraska's lineup is driving the action. I ended up backing Nebraska at +9.5
-
Interesting line discrepancy on Minny/Ohio State. It's 'pick' on Circa.
-
Sure seems that way so far. Lots of fun matches to be had with these guys.

I'm trying to remember the match because I know I watched it on FS1 maybe? Looks like both guys picked up stall calls in the 2nd and Parco got the TD. In the 3rd, Ridge gets a second SW putting Parco up 4-2, Ridge forced a 2nd stall call on Parco making it 4-3. This is the recap from Corn Nation which covers Nebraska: https://www.cornnation.com/2024/2/25/24083233/wrestling-3-nebraska-ends-dual-season-with-26-9-win-over-19-arizona-state After a scoreless first period, Parco wisely chose neutral in the second period. Lovett was warned for stalling for inactivity on the feet before Parco got in on a shot and was able to finish for the takedown and the 3-0 lead. Parco was called for stalling then for dropping down to Lovett’s legs for five seconds before Lovett rolled out for an escape on the restart. In the third, Lovett chose down. After a hard ride from Parco, Lovett was able to nearly get a reversal on the edge but settled for an escape, cutting Parco’s lead to 3-2, but more importantly stopping Parco’s riding time at 59 seconds. Lovett was digging underhooks and looking to score a point on a stall call to tie things, driving Parco to the edge and eventually off the mat. In a wild turn of events, it was Lovett who was called for stalling for pushing Parco out of bounds rather than on Parco for letting himself get pushed out, giving Parco the point to go up 4-2. Lovett did get the stall call on Parco to cut the deficit to 4-3 shortly after, but he still needed a takedown. He wasn’t able to get one, dropping his first match of the season via 4-3 decision.

Hard to argue with Parco's H2H results versus Ridge for sure.
-
This is pretty close to how I see things. Only difference is I think Nebraska gets one of 149 or 184 so call it 21-13.
-
I saw a Minnesota -2.5 line vs Purdue for Sunday for a couple hours and came really, really close to firing a big bet but they pulled it down. On Circa, Iowa is out to -8.5 which is close to what I was hoping to get to back Nebraska.
-
This line was pretty dialed in, I saw Circa originally posted it at PSU -23 on Monday and then it dropped to -20 a few days later. I saw it bounce between -21.5 and -20 before it settled around -20.5 I saw. I was pleasantly surprised to see I can now bet wrestling on DK. For the longest time all I could bet wrestling on was Circa and they usually only have a few duals each week.

I really dislike watching Braeden 'King Joffrey' Davis out there pouting and whining on the mat. His swoop hair irritates me.

I agree, Dalton is really highly touted so seeing Antrell really put it on him was a bit of a 'yo' for sure. I think Taylor is going to be a real PITA at 157. I, too, thought Pinto would win by a little more margin but as you pointed out, I'd imagine these guys are pretty familiar with themselves. Araujo is supposed to be the real deal so seeing him keep it somewhat tight for a couple periods has to be a shot of confidence for him. Here's the play by play from that match written by the Corn Nation reporter: I was really interested in this match because it could shed some light on both wrestlers. How will Pinto look down at 174? How good is the true freshman Araujo, a U20 World bronze-medalist? I think we got the answers to both those questions today in this match. In the first period, Araujo showed great defensive abilities as he fended off some ferocious attacks from Pinto. Araujo then started down in the second period and scored an escape, taking a 1-0 lead into the third period. In the third, Pinto took control of the match with a quick escape, a reversal and a takedown to get the 6-2 win. Araujo is set to redshirt behind Pinto, but he showed today that he is for real as we got our first look at him against a legit top guy. He’ll be a force in a year or two with Pinto as a training partner. I fully expect Araujo to take the mat for a few duals this year. On the other hand, Pinto looks great at 174 pounds. I was pleasantly surprised to see that his gas tank doesn’t seem to be affected by the cut as he scored all six of his points in the third period.

Minto beat Condomitti 12-4 on 10/26 when Nebraska held their first set of wrestle-offs.

Nebraska wrestle off results from last Saturday: As mentioned earlier ITT, Lauridsen did beat Smith at 125 but it's still expected that Smith will be the starter and Lauridsen still goes through with his RS. 125--Lauridsen dec Smith 8-7 133--Van Dee TF Mills 19-4 141--Hardy TF Ayoub 18-1 149--Lovett was supposed to wrestle Robertson but the match didn't take place due to injury. Not sure if the injury happened to Lovett or Robertson. From folks who were there they mentioned that Ridge was working on the mats but he was wearing a shoulder brace so who knows. 157--Taylor TF Dalton 20-5 165--Wilson SV Minto 6-5--match of the day 174--Pinto dec Araujo 6-2 184--Allred WBF Christiansen 197--McDanel TF Thebeau 23-8 285--Andrews dec Moore 5-0 More in depth coverage can be found here if you're looking for the play by play: https://www.cornnation.com/2024/11/2/24286093/wrestling-nebraska-holds-final-set-of-wrestle-offs-with-season-opener-next-week
