  1. Can anyone explain to me the meaning of all of the emoji s? I've searched and found this thread and after reading it I'm more confused than ever. What does Bob Dole mean? Brown = bad? Golden poop = Good? = Good? What do the + and - mean next them? Thanks for helping a old dude out
  2. Least favorite team- Hawkeyes Favorite wrestler- Block (last year it was Drake and he's now coaching my favorite team...weird right?) Honorable mention - Swiderski
  3. Interesting topic. IF we are looking back at HS recruits IIRC Joe Hesket was the talk of the town in Ames (above Cael). They both shot up the rankings to #1 and were undefeated a long way through their Rfreshman years. He would have made more NIL than Cael imo. Tim Kreiger was also highly sought after in HS.
  4. I made adjustments to reflect my guesses
  5. IMO there is a difference between a guy who has a path to start at a school (even though it's not his ideal wgt) and someone who decides to transfer in search of a path to start. I was referring to those that wonder why Nick B might stay at tOSU vs a guy like Zach Redding who left for a chance to start. I might have misunderstood your post. Apologies.
  6. I didn't read the post as faulting kids for wanting to compete. NB has a couple options to be a front liner. That's different than a guy who is log jammed out.
  7. I'm genuinely curious as to how a coach 20 years ago still negatively impacts a program that is still active. What damage did Bono do? Did Brands also create damage?
  8. Dogbone. - sorry I read you post too fast and thought you said he shouldn't get credit for Gross. When you in fact said the opposite. My bad
  9. I'm curious on how many schools have produced 2x Finalists similar to Gross? Wisconsin has had other 2x AA like Hamiti. BTW. Who does get credit for Gross? Do only "good coaches" get to take credit for NC? Can Nickerson take credit for Alirez? I'm an ISU fan so I'm wondering if we get credit for DT since he committed to ISU before following Cael.
  10. Not defending Bono but if you take away Caels AA he wouldn't be a top 15 coach either. Looks like it was working to me.
  11. Interesting stuff. I appreciate the thought that went into this. I'm not sure the "not retaining guys" is fair to any school. Many of the names you listed actually were retained for many years and they left for rare opportunities (examples- Metcalf, St John, Gilman). Coaching opportunities are very limited at the highest level schools and those that want to coach typically must pursue opportunities elsewhere when available. I don't consider the David Taylor move a result of PSU not being able to retain DT but rather an incredible opportunity that DT had that wasn't available at PSU.
  12. IMO the problem with the current rule is that it leaves too much objectivity (or opinion) for multiple refs to call things differently which is what is currently happening. It's not the refs fault, it's the rules fault. I think a better rule will make it less complicated and easier for fans, wrestlers, coaches to understand. That is why in an earlier post I offered change ideas that apply to stalling for both feet and mat wrestling. Example 1 re: Out of bounds/push out rule: One guy shoots multiple times but then get's pushed backwards OOB and the ref's don't call it because their opinion is that it's continuation. Same scenario and another ref calls stalling because their opinion is different. Both have valid opinions and made the correct call based on today's rule. Example 2 re: Mat wrestling: Guy gets the legs in and get's bottom guy on belly. First ref let's it go for the whole period resulting in a lot of RR. Second ref calls stalling on the bottom guy. Third ref calls stalling on top guy (for riding parallel). Fourth ref calls double stall and/or stalemate. Al ref's are correct based on today's rules. That's why I proposed auto stalemate after 30 seconds. IF we are able to track Riding time this should be simple. IF nothing else it makes it less complicated for our officials, coaches and wrestlers.
  13. I agree that this is a good question when considering team chemistry and also coaching strategies. I don't follow PSU that close. I'm wondering how many AA's have transferred to other schools because they have been beat out by younger recruits and/or transfers? note: I know the Google machine could probably tell me this but I think a PSU fan might know this info off the top of his/her head. TIA
  14. To the original question: I think the 3 pt TD has been great. Regarding mat wrestling here are my ideas 1. 1 sec rt advantage = 1 point 2. 1 minute rt advantage = 2 points 3. Each full minute of rt over 1 minute = another 1 point (no limit to rt points) 4. Here's the kicker... after 30 seconds of continuous riding the ref automatically stops action for a restart. (Unless bottom has back exposed) This keeps ref from having to decide stalling on either top or bottom wrestler. It gives bottom wrestler advantage of having a restart opportunity (similar to ot ride out situations) 5. Step fully out (back first) = automatic Stall (I agree with Cael) These changes would help refs by clarifying stalling and eliminate some inconsistencies in how stalling is called on the mat and edges. It would also create more action from top/bottom positions.
