  1. Wrestling USA Magazine, which is about the only rankings I know of from back then. Barry and Royce weren't even Iowa HS 4xers, TJ was a community college recruit and never wrestled for Gable, the Banach's were multiple sport athletes and weren't top 10 recruits, and Tom Ryan transferred to Iowa from Syracuse, so I highly doubt he just showed up one day lol. Someone made the comment that Iowa stockpiled talent just like PSU is doing, and the fact is, that's simply not true. Gable was a master motivator and was known for developing good, not great, kids into champs (e.g. Chris Campbell won a single HS state title, then went to on to win three NCAA titles, a world gold, and an Olympic medal). Sure he had some top guys come in over the years as I've shown, but it was nothing in comparison to what we are seeing happen with Cael and PSU.
  2. Just to compare: Penn State's Top 10 Recruits under Sanderson (2009 - 2024) (1.9 per year): 2009 David Taylor, St. Paris, OH 2010 Andrew Alton, Lock Haven, PA Dylan Alton, Lock Haven, PA 2011 Morgan McIntosh - Santa Ana, CA Nico Megaludis – Murrysville, PA 2012 Jimmy Gulibon – Derry, PA 2013 Zain Retherford – Benton, PA 2014 Jason Nolf - Rural Valley, PA Nick Nevills - Clovis, CA Bo Nickal – Allen, TX 2015 Vincenzo Joseph – Pittsburgh, PA 2016 Mark Hall - Apple Valley, MN Nick Suriano – Paramus, NJ Mason Manville – Lorton, VA 2017 Brady Berge Nick Lee 2018 Aaron Brooks Michael Beard 2019 Greg Kerkvliet Carter Starocci 2020 Beau Barlett Robert Howard 2021 Alex Facundo Shayne Van Ness 2022 Levi Haines 2023 Josh Barr 2024 Luke Lilledahl Joseph Sealey Zack Ryder Mason Gibson Connor Mirasola
  3. That's because Iowa and Gable weren't getting all the top talent back then. Gable averaged less than one top-10 recruit per class. It was also a lot harder to find the best of the best back then. You had to travel and use your contacts; no Flo to watch matches. Iowa Top 10 Recruits under Gable (1976 - 1997) ( .76 per year): 1976 King Mueller Bolingbrook HS, Bolingbrook, IL Mike DeAnna Bay Village HS, Bay Village, OH 1977 Randy Lewis Stevens HS, Rapid City, SD Dean Phinney Clear Lake HS, Clear Lake, IA 1978 [None] 1979 Mark Trizzino Central HS, Joliet, IL Jeff Kerber Emmetsburg HS, Emmetsburg, IA 1980 [None] 1981 [None] 1982 [None] 1983 Steve Knight Clinton HS, Clinton, IA Mark Sindlinger Charles City HS, Charles City, IA 1984 Joe Melchiore Highland Reg. 4. Spencer played dumb but he never said Iowa wasn't recruiting Anthony. Anthony was in Iowa City this past weekend and it sounds like everything went really great. There are also rumors around town that Angelo will be enrolling at Iowa City, City High for the fall. Take that as you will.
  5. What a dumb way to look at all-time rankings. I guess by this criteria, David Taylor is behind T.J. Williams (98-1) on the list of best 2xers, but we all know that's not true lol.
  6. I am curious who you think was going to beat him that weekend. If there was ever a guaranteed year for Spencer Lee, it was 2020. There is no argument that this season was when we saw the best Spencer Lee. Who do you think is beating him that year from this bracket? And how confident are you in that pick?
  7. Okay, yes, I agree with you there, but you understand what I am saying in regard to this discussion. Spencer's healthiest season was 2019-20, and it cost him a fourth title and a potential Olympics run.
  8. So you have him behind every single PSU 3xer? L.. O... L Spencer has two Hodges, a Sullivain Award, and had one of the most dominant careers we have ever seen. Putting him behind half the guys on your list just shows what little you know about the sport of wrestling. Also, take COVID away and Spencer's career is over in 2021 with 4 titles. Nobody was hit worse by the shutdown than Spencer Lee.
  9. I believe Iowa's own Danny Murphy is now a US Navy SEAL: https://hawkeyesports.com/roster/danny-murphy/
  10. I'd heard a rumor of concussion issues at the State tourney in February. Basically, the Navy told him if he gets another he is disqualified from enlisting. Doing a quick Google search, I am not sure if that is even a possibility, but it would make a lot more sense than the number one ranked kid just quitting during his senior year of high school. Burnout is also a real possibility. It's a strange decision either way. 11. Sorry... I confused you with someone else. It was Idaho who said, "Guess Iowa isn’t making moves but they are good at making rumors" which is why I responded to him, no you.
  12. I wasn't arguing with you, just responding to your comment. If what Mastro claimed actually happened, I don't see any way a DA would have a problem proving that beyond a reasonable doubt. Bullet holes, shell casings, etc would be pretty easy to find. I am with you that the truth is somewhere in the middle. Again, John Smith has been checked out for years now and has clearly lost all control. OSU needs to make changes sooner than later, IMO.
  13. You said, "I guess Iowa isn't making moves." I suggested you hold tight on that statement. Again, let's revisit in a couple of months.
  14. Throwing shit at the wall again, I see.
  15. It would be pretty easy to prove that someone shot up your house, wouldn't it?
  16. And you came away with those thoughts after reading Mastro's side of the story. As we learn early in life, there are two sides to this type of stuff. As I said, I will let the courts decide who is guilty and who isn't. All in all, it sounds like John Smith has lost all control of his program.
  17. So you believe everything in the Snapchat screenshot? Do you think Anthony shot up Mastro's house?
  18. It's March 21st. Let's revisit this in June lol.
  19. My first thought is that Mastrogiovanni's side of the story doesn't jive with the charges at hand. At least not with Anthony. Again, if Anthony really shot up his house and attempted to kill his dog, do you think the DA would charge him with a simple misdemeanor? I don't. I already provided details about misdemeanor assault and battery in the state of Oklahoma. If there was a deadly weapon involved, that's an automatic felony charge. So if Mastro will stretch that part of the story, I wouldn't be surprised if the other parts are fabricated to fit a narrative. I think I will wait to see what the courts decide before convicting someone over a Snapchat screenshot from a well-known loser.
  20. LITERALLY .. You know how stoopid you look, right?
  21. Lol and why would you assume I was talking about you?
  22. Unfortunately, Jesuroga has given up wrestling and is joining the Navy. He wants to be a SEAL.
  23. The PSU boys are in full denial mode this morning. It's going to be a fun off-season.
  24. You should start another thread about this, John. You're not shook at all lol.
