Coming back to this comment right after he has won a B1G title is awesome. I am hoping for a very productive NCAA's from the man. His story has been nothing but fireworks all season!
-
Dylan Shawver and Michael Cetta have both shown improvement that has been awesome to watch as a Rutgers wrestling fan. Gives some light of hope for the end of this season.
-
Yeah, he never took WWE off of his profile. In fact, it is the first thing mentioned in his bio on Instagram. I don't follow it too much, but friends who do tell me he is not cut out for it. I'd rather just see him go into MMA and stop wasting the time time of both parties.

Big 12 Projected Seeds/Interactive Bracket
BloodRound replied to bracketbuster's topic in College Wrestling
I completely forgot that Buchanan was even wrestling this season until reading this thread. -
I want to give my hometown a nod and say that Dylan Shawver is my pick for 133, as I want to see the Scarlet Knights come home with at least one positive note from this tournament.

The Netflix documentary on this family is gonna be sooooo mid.

He had a pretty high stock, but I remember that many saw his teammate, Stefan Glasgow, as the one with a higher ceiling. He had just beaten Shane Griffith for a state title that year. Goes to show you that it's not a sprint, but a marathon.
-
Love both - anyone got anyone older examples though? I am looking to hear about some older stories.
-
I have seen the threads on here that discuss the highly touted athlete that flames out and underperforms tremendously throughout their college career, which, while interesting, is really a sort of negativity I am not in the mood to discuss here. Instead, I would love to hear more about those who defied the odds of their recruitment stats & achieved greatness in the sport. The less accolades, the better. And before anyone says them, I am very aware of both stories of JB and Cassar.

I don't see Mr. Fast Twitch letting that fly. He will EXPOSE AND OWN the LIBERAL COLLEGE rules with FACTS AND LOGIC.

Does Penn State lose it once again?

Will Yonger Bastida beat Hendrickson? Will he beat Kerkvliet?

I am ready for this tweet to age poorly come March... Or maybe this comment. -
Biggest Darkhorse's to make a run at NCAA's
BloodRound replied to Truzzcat's topic in College Wrestling
174 I'm rooting for Rutgers's Turley to make another run to the podium to (possibly) close out his career. 197 can't help but root for Little to finish atop the podium 285 Nevils could surprise a few people I think -

Kyle Snyder is only one year older than me and that fact still astonishes me to this day. -

Yeah, the buzz with being an accomplished youth wrestler in freestyle happened over state side during my time in college (2015-2019). Sebastian Rivera was a local area wrestler and his biggest claim to fame at the start of his senior season was that he won Super 32. You never heard a word about how he did on the freestyle circuit. When I first got into coaching, I never heard anyone of note going to that tournament anymore, it was just about youth states and freestyle accolades. To reference a more recent local upstart, freshman Paul Kenny from CBA's biggest note coming into high school was that he won U17's last summer. I am sure he was plenty decent in folkstyle tournaments, but you never hear about that. It is just a culture shock I haven't had time to think on until recently. -

You bring up a great point. Our freestyle success has been so abundant that I failed to consider the rather huge blemish that is our failure in Greco. I honestly have no idea what we do with that. It seems like the style is fairly unpopular the US wrestlers. Even those who dedicated themselves to it (Schultz is the first that comes to mind) seem to just have a very apparent disconnect with the rest of the world Greco phone. -
the US team has as much depth and talented newcomers always ready to take the reigns in this day and age. I remember just finishing up my first year of college when Kyle Snyder's star was rising. Now I see on Twitter that his time as the guy at 97 is coming to a close, and we could see Aaron Brooks taking his spot. Yianni is another one; remember his first NCAA title and his early international success that earned him the reputation of being a world beater. Now I am not sure I would pick him over the likes of Lee or Retherford to make the world team. I am not really here to debate, but to appreciate how much talent USA Wrestling has been producing in the last decade+.

Beats Hendrickson in a 1-takedown match; loses to Kerklivet. -
How were Cassar's freestyle results though, beyond the tournament he competed in during college? I do not doubt Anthony's ability as a wrestler, FYI. He pinned me very quickly back in high school.
-
... is it though?

57 - Lee blows through the US and finally reminds us why people were begging him to enter the international scene during his last two years of college. 65 - Nick Lee, who then proceeds to immediately get sent packing home and makes us all wonder, "what if world beater Yianni got the spot?" 74 - Dake. My heart will hurt when JB leaves his shoes on the mat. 97 - Snyder, silver medal. 125 - I would love to say Steveson but I am tired of the bouncing back between both worlds of wrestling. Parris goes and I could see him bringing back a medal for us as well... Steveson then proceeds to tech him at WTT the following year for the hell of it.

It's time: Predict the 2024 125 pound NCAA champ
BloodRound replied to peanut's topic in College Wrestling
McKee will put on an utter display of dominance, the likes of which we have never seen before, resulting in an incredible 3rd place finish. -
Fellow Jersey native here. Maybe it is recency bias here but I think I would throw Suriano into the discussion if we are speaking from a high school/college standpoint. If we are speaking on international accolades though, I think we can just disregard this comment for now.

The fact that anyone on this website posted Wolf Eyes inspired me to log back in for the first time in over a year... Hell yeah.
