Thoughts on the 2027 World Team Trials Procedures
D3Demon replied to D3Demon's topic in International Wrestling
Here's a list of some names who aren't qualified for the 2027 open yet, I probably missed some. With the NCAA guy they can qualify with a top 3 placement, but unless they are going over seas or wrestling freestyle during the seasons that would be their only chance to qualify. I would think we'd see a lot of RTC guys go to the Ferrell because that's there only shot to qualify without leaving the country. 57kg: Troy Spratley, Eric Barnett 65kg: Brock Hardy, Nick Suriano, Luke Stanich, Aden Valencia 74kg: Mitchell Mesenbrink, Jaxon Joy, Pj Duke, Ian Parker, Michael Caliendo, Terrel Barraclough, Bryce Andonian, Nico Ruiz, Yaya Thomas, Jared Jaccques, Ladarion Lockett 86kg: Mehki Lewis, Chris Minto, Max McEnelly 97kg: Jacob Cardenas, Sonny Sasso 125kg: Koy Hopke, Jim Mullen, Taye Ghadiali, Daniel Kerkvliet -
Thoughts on the 2027 World Team Trials Procedures
D3Demon replied to D3Demon's topic in International Wrestling
I agree I think it could lead to a very strong team at both Olympic and non Olympic weights. I wonder if we still see any of the non Olympic weight guys only compete at there non Olympic weight in 2027. Is Trent/Levi/zain/all the 61kg guys going to go up or down for the open and then go non Olympic weight after? Or will they stay at their spot and push off the gaining or cutting weight for another year. -
Brand new process for the 2027 world team. Olympic weights will be wrestled at the open and then decided there too. You’ll have to qualify/be qualified to wrestle in it. Non-Olympic weights will be decided at a later date. https://www.themat.com/news/2026/august/10/2027-senior-world-team-procedures-approved-in-olympic-weights

When did USA Wrestling decide to just concede Greco?
D3Demon replied to Room Guy's topic in International Wrestling
For all of the hate that Greco gets, lots of top Senior and NCAA guys have compete it from youth through Fargo. A lot of them also had success in it. I believe it has value for someone who's focus is in Folk or free and wished people doing age level comp would wrestle it more. -
Might as well add in Patrick Brophy who was 4th at 92 SRs and is still U23 eligible

The Raneys before they decided to not compete at the open were signed up for 60kg and 63kg. So idk how big they really are but some of the weights you have them at are a bit crazy

Here’s my predictions for the sign ups we have right now. You can sign up until like the day of but I don’t think there should be any super big late additions 57kg - Cortez Pretty much the same field as the open and he already won that plus he’s sitting out to the finals. Obviously there’s a lot of studs that’s could win the mini tournament with multiple world champs and medalists in the field. So quite an advantage to sit out and not have to go through this field again. I’m interested in seeing what Cowboy RTC can do. Ronnie Rameriz is at 57kg after being at 133/61kg and Zinkin are in. 61kg - Aaron Siedel The Cortez brother is sitting out in the final, so Siedel will have to go through the mini bracket. This is a much smaller field than 57kg with only Dean Anderson being the biggest blue chipper in the field. I’ll take Siedel pretty handily going through this field. 65kg - Bo Bassett Not much I have to say here. Bassett already blitzed through this whole field and the senior level field. Give me two techs against whoever. Who makes it through is interesting, I’ll take Wolbert but there’s a couple blue choppers in there that could make things interesting. Bonus little kikiniou is signed up after coming off a medal at u17s and making the u17 team this year as well. 70kg - Landon Robideau He’s sitting out in the finals and I think he wins it. He already walked through this field at the open and almost took out Zain at WTT. Now Melvin Miller is in the field and could make things interesting. I think his down preformance at the open was due to Double bracketing. But a couple years ago we saw Landon was too much for Miller. Seth Mendoza looms as well after making the open finals. But give me Landon over miller in the finals. 74kg - Jayden James After what he did at WTT I think it’s hard to pick against James. He already ran through the open but this is a different field with Lockett, Routledge and Howard now signed up. Last year Lockett took out James in two matches to zero. But I think with going through this field and what I think is a hard weight to make for Lockett. After another year of maturing and growing into 74kg. Give me James over Lockett. 79kg - Asher Cunningham This would be a rematch of the Open finals, where Burton won and is sitting out to the finals. But if we know anything about PSU wrestler, their adjustments in a short period of time are elite. I think making weight is tough after being a 184 for the year. Asher is definitely less experienced in freestyle but I think he gets it done. 86 - Sinclair Sinclair double bracketed and still walked through this field at the open. The mini bracket is interesting with a few new signs up who weren’t at the Open. Last years u17 team member Aaron Stewart and Cowboy commit Mikey White is in. Plus All American Brock Manantona is in as well. I think we see the winner of Brock vs White in the finals. But give me Sinclair versus whoever 2-0. 92 kg - Adam Waters With high schooler Jimmy Mastny sitting out in the finals. This might be one of the more open weights in u20s. If I was a big 86kg guy I’d consider moving up to this weight. But Waters and AA Branson John are in the mini bracket. Both who weren’t in the field at the open. If waters is healthy I think he wins the whole things. But I think the winner of the mini bracket will go on to take the spot 97kg - Howle Same with 92kg this field is pretty light. Only 6 wrestlers signed up and Howle walking through the Open. I think Howle takes this one handily. 125kg - Merrill I think we see a repeat of the Open finals here. Merrill vs Ross. Merrill is sitting out and beat Ross in the final. With Merrill being so big and having a great style for freestyle. I think he takes this one again. Although Ross did seem to figure out some things at the end of the Open Final. I’m interested to see if Ross can make any adjustments to take out Merrill. Ross will have to go through a World Champ in Michael Mocco to get to Merrill

Someone other new/interesting sign ups: 61kg: Aaron Siedel 125kg: Both Mirasola brothers 125kg: Isaac Trumble 74kg: Jayden James 125kg: Jimmy Mullen 70kg: Landon Robideau 74kg: Mikey Caliendo 74kg: PJ Duke -
I would assume that's the new procedure for this year. It's the same for U23 greco and freestyle, but women's freestyle has National Team (Top 3) and then the U23 champ. But I would think that they would recommend the U23 Champ. Here's the team so far: Greco 55kg: Kenneth Crosby 60kg: TBD 63kg: Landon Drury (Nogle, Manville) 67kg: Otto Black 72kg: Brett Back (Kikiniou Jr.) 77kg: Joel Adams 82kg: Adrian Artisisheuski 87kg: Michael Altomer 97kg: Ryder Rogotzke (Morgan) 130kg: Aiden Attao Men's Freestyle: 57kg: TBD (Probably LL unless someone takes out Lee) 61kg: TBD (Jax, Blaze, Davino all eligible) 65kg: Bo Bassett 70kg: TBD 74kg: TBD 79kg: Levi Haines 86kg: Aeoden Sinclair 92kg: Shumate 97kg: Justin Rademacher 125kg: TBD

Mo Endene to Little Rock & heavyweight?
D3Demon replied to WrestlingPhD's topic in College Wrestling
With heavyweight cleared out I can see him being an AA contender. I don't know what he walks around at but when he made the u23 team at 97kg, I thought he looked full sized and that was with making 197 in mind. I see him similar to a Christian Carroll build, stocky and super explosive. -
Does this mean that Norman is moving up to 184. Both ISU and Nebraska have returning AAs at 174. I always thought he looked huge at 174

After seeing the entry list here's some of my interesting story lines or wrestlers to watch 125: Can Zeke Witt keep it rolling against a solid field and Ventresca after beating Provo and losing by 1 to Lilledahl. Cornell wrestle off with both Milani and the return of Greg D both in the field. 133: Can Dillon Campbell hold his spot as the VTech starter after Seidels showing at midlands? Cornell wrestle off with Unger and Ferrara (To me Ferrara has looked great this year). The return of Marlon Yarbrough after having a solid 2024 NCAAs beating Nagao. Richie Figgs in the field, does he bounce back? 141: How's Nagao going to look, especially against this really tough field with #5, #8, #13, #14 149: Carter Young's first tournament at Maryland, and how is Daniel Zepeda going to look in his first big tournament. 157: Mac Church down at 157 for the first time, can he crack into VTechs lineup? Will the Joe Sealey hype continue, I've seen people having him as an AA after losing to Duke 2-1. 174: Two ranked wrestler, who can take this title... Henckel? 184: Same as 174, 4 ranked wrestlers and the highest is #19, who can take the title? 197: Barr vs Little. Barr looked great in his first appearance back, does that keep up against someone on Little's level. Can Sonny Sasso knock off someone like Little, we saw him major Novak but also take some bad losses.

I would say Army definitely made the Badgers work for it. They looked super tough. Going into 197 it was close dual, 133: Berginc taking out AA Fuggit in OT 157: Antonio hit a big feet to back to win in the final seconds to win over a top 30 ish Mechler 165: Goebel had to come back with a TD late in the third to win in nationally ranked match up 174: Condon got an escape with like 1 second left to win 5-4 184: Army got a late TD to win for Anderson

After looking at the pre-seeds here's some lower seeds to make some noise: 125 - #8 Marc-Anthony McGowan 133- #7 Kyler Larkin 141 - #11 Pierson Manville 149 - #6 Aden Valencia 184 - #8 Ian Bush 285 - #7 Christian Carroll
