  1. Best Enemies Part 2 (after the Taylor-Dake"Frien-emies" Part 1)
  2. I've looked but haven't seen any information on how to watch (TV or stream) the Olympic Trials. Anyone with reliable information? FLO is having a "Watch Party" but that means watching them watch the trials not watching it yourself. It's exactly one month out. Hasn't someone picked up the streaming or TV service?
  3. I find it kind of amazing that there seems to be very few wrestlers each year who don't make weight at NCAAs (and other tournaments) ... at least that we hear about. I'm curious out of 330 wrestlers, how many miss weight through the years? Wrestleknownothing: do you have any data on this matter? I'm betting some of your super sleuthing might turn up something ... unless this is a stumper.
  4. There are only 19 pages here devoted to a guy who doesn't even have a team. I believe the Penn State forum has this place beat: they are up to 47 pages and counting on the Ferrari mafia
  5. one month out from today 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling schedule finalized; new information on single-session tickets and parking https://www.themat.com/news/2024/march/18/2024-u-s-olympic-team-trials-wrestling-schedule-finalized-new-information-on-single-session-tickets-and-parking
  6. Total and complete hyperbole. Nolf kicked IMAR's butt and pinned him in the dual, giving him his first loss of his career. IMAR beat Nolf at Big Tens: 4-3 (TB2, RT) the first time (That's about as close as you can get). IMAr beat Nolf the second time in the NCAA final 6-5 (again very, very close). Nolf was leading the watch for a while 4-3. IMAR was called for stalling and might easily have been called a second time. IMAR got the TD to break a 4-4 tie with 13 seconds left in the third. Nolf escaped with 6 seconds left but time ran out as IMAR backed away. Nolf was a freshman. IMAR a sophomore.
  7. "Penn State wrestling board returns to its obsession with Ferrari and Iowa" After three days of NCAA action with few posts about A.J. Ferrari, the Penn State wrestling board has returned to add to its 47 pages (yes, that is correct) of comments about Mr. Fast Twitch and its obsession with all things Iowa. Said one poster (who asked that his name be withheld) on Sunday morning: "Yea, we just won our 11th title in 13 years, but I'm really looking forward to getting back to Ferrari's life, including how much he can lift, and to other serious issues at Iowa about gambling, transfers, and Spencer Lee's mother. Even though Iowa finished 4th this year, I don't think the Brands know how to coach and the whole state is jealous of all our success. Gabe Arnold will never win a title next year unless he transfers to Penn State in which case I probably won't root for him to beat out Facundo, unless he is in the lineup the second semester and he takes back what he said about Starocci. We have 362 days now to get on this before NCAAs in 2025. Hey, did you hear that Sadulaev might be Iowa's starter at 197 in the Fall? Iowa big donor scandal for sure with the Russians"
  8. yes ... but why couldn't Schalles compete at ncaas?
  9. Floyd "Shorty" Hitchcock excelled as a wrestler during his days at Bloomsburg University. He posted an 84-7-2 dual meet record and won 3 PSAC Championships. His senior year he won both the Division I and II National titles in the 177-pound weight class and was named the Outstanding Wrestler in both tournaments. He also won a silver medal at the 1973 World Games in Moscow. During his high school coaching days at Lake Lehman, he guided the Knights to 4 District 2 Titles and was a 4-time district coach of the year. In 1981, he coached Lake-Lehman to the PIAA Class AA State Championship. Two of his former high school stars were Rick and Rock Bonomo, who later achieved All-American honors at Bloomsburg.
  10. Is Brooks shorter than Hidlay? I would say it's pretty close. Hidlay might even be shorter. Anyone know? In this photo, they each appear to be about 24 inches tall (I mean short).
  11. Here's a poor video of the match:
  12. I believe your nickname is an instance of a near-rhyme or half-rhyme, also called a lazy rhyme or imperfect rhyme. Good use of "garotte", which (as you obviously know) is a method or apparatus of strangulation. Choking is an interesting way to depart the world (more interesting, I think, than being shot, which can be a cowardly act taken at a distance by the shooter) because the person doing the choking often has to look their victim in the eye while doing it and then continue with the action for a while, perhaps even arriving at a moment of empathy that causes them to stop the action. It is more intimate than shooting and even knifing someone. Choking from behind probably isn't as open to the (empathetic) decision to curtail the process because there is no eye-to-eye contact.
  13. Three related questions: 1. Is there a date by which qualified wrestlers have to declare which weight they are going? I don't think we know which weight some guys (e.g., Zain Retherford) plan to head -- up or down. Also, someone mentioned that you have declare your intention to wrestle (if qualified) by March 25th. Is that the case https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/11280815-2024-wrestling-olympic-trials-qualifiers 2. Is there anyone with a good chance of winning NCAAs next week who would thereby automatically qualify for Trials and have a reasonable chance of making a run there? The first name that comes to mind is Kerkviliet. Hendrickson, I believe, is already qualified. I'm not sure if Bastida is still a Cuban citizen or not. The other name, of course, is Starocci, but it is very hard for me to imagine him making 74KG less than a month after NCAAs. Hidlay Brooks, KOT, Mesenbrink, Fix, Arujau, Bartlett, and Shapiro are already qualified for trials. Not sure about David Carr. Aside: there are a few high school guys who are qualified: Mirosola, Lllledahl, and Blaze. And several redshirts: Facundo, Trumble, and Alirez. https://www.themat.com/news/2024/march/11/2024-u-s-olympic-team-trials-qualifiers-as-of-march-11 3. Who might go to the Last Chance qualifier for Trials (April 6-7) I haven't seen any recent updates on this event, including who has registered for it. https://www.themat.com/news/2023/december/20/last-chance-olympic-team-trials-qualifier-set-for-fairfax-va-april-6-7

  15. In my mind, a big question concerns who might be affected (negatively) the most by the weight cut Thursday morning and Friday morning. Lewis against Starocci? And who might benefit Saturday night from the opportunity for weight gain and rehydration in the finals. We often see a few guys balloon in the finals and be noticeably larger than their opponents. Thoughts?

  17. Your "two cents" make sense. They are not nonsense. But given elevator (I mean elevated) inflation, they might about to about 5 cents (points)
  18. You've moved from wishful thinking to the psychological phenomenon known as "projection"
  19. Nebraska's Crystal Ball: Smith loses to Stanich Van Dee loses to Orine Hardy loses to Lemley Lovett loses to Henson Robb loses to Lewan Taylor loses to Hall Labriola loses to Starocci (whoops, that was last year). Wilson goes fishing. Pinto loses to Munoz Alred loses to Glazer Huntmacher loses to Schulz Bonus: Manning screams, cries, and kicks an official (is booted from the arena)
  20. Does Bastida (like Salazar) have that look of suspicious acne on the face? The guy goes from a 6th place finish at B12s, an 18-9 record at 197, a less than 30 percent bonus rate, a round of 16 qualifier, and a 2-2 finish at NCAAs up a great weight increase where he is undefeated, ranked 2nd, muscled as hell, more than 70 percent bonus rate, and a wrecking ball.. Hmm. Reasonable minds wonder. '
  21. It's the quiet, efficient, polite killers you have to watch out for. Like "No Country for Old Men". Nolf, Sanderson, Zain, Stieber, Kerk, etc. Off the mat, as chill as a calm cat can be. On the mat, everyone is just prey.
  22. They used to announce the top seed (or two?) the hour before the selection show. I guess they aren't doing that anymore, huh?
  23. Final coaches ranking (poll) and final RPI were released today. They will obviously affect seedings. And, if you are not aware the NCAA selection show is tonight at 8 PM. https://www.themat.com/news/2024/march/13/ncaa-div-i-awards-standings-updated-plus-the-final-coaches-ranking-and-final-rpi-in-div-i
