  1. I was told at nationals he might be at 174 but 165 is also a possibility. Incontrera graduates so we need a replacement there. We were not strong at 165 but we will have two or three candidates there next year.
  2. Penn’s expected points based on seed was 9.5 and they scored 26.5. Where did you get 20.8?
  3. Davis Motyka from Wyoming Sem at 125. Sean Seefeldt a Ohio state champ at 174. The kid from Arizona at 165 took 2nd at Fargo to Melvin Miller is very tough. Will be some contested weights. CJ back and Cross and Jude blood round this year.
  4. I know there are many knowledgeable wrestling fans on this site. Many of you know the history of our great sport and I highly recommend that you sign up or attend the wrestling trivia contest. My brother and I won the team trivia contest when it was in Philadelphia several years ago, and I have an official NCAA wrestling chair sitting in my dining room to prove it. Show off your knowledge win some prizes and have a little fun between sessions.
  5. · · WRESTLING TRIVIA CONTEST at NATIONALS During the break between the afternoon and evening sessions of the National Collegiate Wrestling Championship sessions, there will be the Wrestling Trivia Contest. The contest is sponsored by Phan-X. It is not an NCAA sponsored event. The Wrestling Trivia Contest will be held on Friday March 21st from 3:30-4:30 pm between sessions and ALSO Saturday March 22nd between the afternoon session and finals, also from 3:30-4:30 pm. Participation is voluntary (for now). Wrestling-related merchandise will be awarded. All wrestling fans are required to evacuate the Wells Fargo Center in between wrestling sessions. So this is a great way to spend your time. Host and Emcee for the Wrestling Trivia Contest will be Dr. Bob Benz (Penn wrestling alum). Eric Waters, defending WTC from 2011 will be present and may be a game time decision participant should the other participants not appear too intimidating. Format will be similar to a spelling bee. If you would like to reserve your participation ahead of time to ensure your inclusion in answering questions in this event, please submit your name, email address or text number and school affiliation (optional) below so that we can make sure you are invited to participate in the trivia contest itself. You do not need to participate in the trivia contest in order to attend. Attendance and participation are free. The event is held in the Club Level of the Lincoln Field Center complex, located across from the Wells Fargo Center where the NCAA Wrestling Championships are being held. All are welcome for this fun and educational event. Submit your advanced participation request to Bob Benz at: RLBenz@yahoo.com

  7. Famous fourth Street delicatessen for those of you that don’t have a good Jewish deli where you live. D’Allesandro’s has been my go to steak place for the last 50 years, but I am looking forward to trying Angelo’s. I will pass on Geno’s and Pat’s.
  8. Mcgowan is a huge 125. We were thinking he didn’t wrestle many matches this year because he was having trouble making weight.
  9. And 2 of them national champs
  10. it ended up having no bearing on the match. I thought one of the more careless wrestlers was Spratley who after he got a takedown to take the 14 point lead immediately should’ve cut Cruz instead he started to let him up but then immediately jumped back on top and rode him out the last 25 seconds When it looked like he could’ve easily gotten the tech. Careless by OSU when the point might have mattered.
  11. Gallagher Penn beats #8 Peterson Rutgers 5-4. Td in the last 30 sec and a rideout
  12. I was fortunate enough to compete at states in 1970. Never heard anyone call it state.
  13. It’a a shame for Crookham. After a year in which he had to deal with Arujau and Fix at his weight 133 this year is not only the weakest weight this year but one of the weakest weights I’ve seen in many many years. This would’ve been a great year for Crookham if he could go.
  14. Mark Hall got screwed in the covid year. He would’ve been the first seed and had a great chance to be a two time champ and a four-time finalist.
  15. Dubuque got very heated and went onto the mat costing Princeton a team point. Coach Roger Reina apparently stepped on the mat and Penn lost a team point. Congrats to coach Reina winning his last home dual meet. He steps down this year. Got his 250th win recently. 2 time Penn NCAA champ Matt Valenti takes over next year.
